Carbon Capture Utilization for Biopolymer Foam Manufacture: Thermal, Mechanical and Acoustic Performance of PCL/PHBV CO2 Foams (open access)

Carbon Capture Utilization for Biopolymer Foam Manufacture: Thermal, Mechanical and Acoustic Performance of PCL/PHBV CO2 Foams

This article uses PCL to blend into PBHV. Both unfoamed and foamed blends are examined. The results provide a pathway to multifunctional performance in foams of high performance biopolymers such as PBHV through harnessing the COâ‚‚ miscibility of PCL.

Cataloging for Makerspaces

Poster on cataloging items for makerspaces. Makerspace items may be difficult for library users to find if they are not fully cataloged. Cataloging not only facilitates discovery but also provides information needed to track usage, create programming, generate recommendations, and support collection development. Attend this poster presentation for an overview of descriptive and subject cataloging for makerspace items. It was presented at the Cross Timbers Library Collaborative (CTCL) 2021 conference held virtually on July 23, 2021.

Characterize traction–separation relation and interfacial imperfections by data-driven machine learning models

This article combines machine learning (ML), finite element analysis (FEA), and empirical experiments to develop data-driven models that characterize interfacial mechanical properties precisely. It also provides a code package containing trained ML models, allowing other researchers to establish T–S relations for different material interfaces.

Chemistry Academic Program Review (open access)

Chemistry Academic Program Review

This report summarizes an evaluation of the UNT Libraries' Chemistry-related resources and materials to determine if the collection is adequately serving patron needs. It was generated as part of the UNT Libraries’ contributions to the university’s Academic Program Reviews, which are conducted by the Accreditation office in the Division of Planning. The UNT Libraries’ Collection Assessment Department evaluated collections’ ability to meet the curricular and research needs of the academic programs being reviewed. They assessed current needs based on course descriptions and research outputs, defined the scope of information needed based on this needs assessment, and evaluated the Libraries’ holdings in these subject areas against the usage, qualitative listings, and requests for materials from other libraries. Specific recommendations for collection development are provided based on the results of these analyses.

Child-Centered Play Therapy and Emotional and Behavioral Problems of Children on the Autism Spectrum (open access)

Child-Centered Play Therapy and Emotional and Behavioral Problems of Children on the Autism Spectrum

The current study is the first repeated-measures design exploring the impact of child-centered play therapy (CCPT), an evidence-based child psychotherapy intervention, on autistic children's social-emotional assets, and emotional and behavioral problems across four times during intervention based on teacher reports. Participants consisted of 19 autistic children recruited from two Title-1 elementary schools in the southwest United States who were aged between 5 years and 8.25 years (M = 6.22, SD = .91), presented with varied levels of cognitive functioning and speech and language abilities. Over 60% of participants were identified by their parents as children of color. Results indicated participants' increased time in CCPT predicted statistically significant improvement in social-emotional assets measured by Social-Emotional Assets and Resilience Scales-Teacher (SEARS-T) total score with a large effect size. Results also indicated participants' increased time in CCPT predicted a statistically significant reduction in emotional and behavioral problems of irritability, social withdrawal, and hyperactivity/ noncompliance, measured by Aberrant Behavior Checklist-Second Edition (ABC- 2), with large effect sizes. Findings of this study revealed substantive changes in social-emotional assets as early as 8 CCPT sessions, and reduction of emotional and behavioral concerns as early as 12 CCPT sessions. Clinical significance, implications for practice, and limitations of …

Children's Experiences in Child-Centered Play Therapy: An Artwork-Based Phenomenological Investigation (open access)

Children's Experiences in Child-Centered Play Therapy: An Artwork-Based Phenomenological Investigation

Child-centered play therapy (CCPT) is an empirically endorsed approach for children facing specific clinical concerns and life circumstances alike. The majority of research to date has accrued data about clients from secondary sources, such as adult report and observation. The purpose of this study was to explore children's perceptions of participating in CCPT by implementing a developmentally accessible interview medium, allowing children to share their experiences directly. Ten children between the ages of 4 and 7 who had completed at least eight sessions of CCPT were invited to create a drawing and respond to an interview protocol with their counselor. Data sources included the picture produced, a transcript of the interview between the child and counselor, and observation notes of the interview process. Using a phenomenological approach, three themes were identified to describe children's awareness and experience of the intervention: expressions of relationship, experiences in the playroom, and reluctance to engage in counselor-directed activity. The first two themes reflect children's report of the intervention and the third represents reactions to the research activity. Findings from this study support conclusions that children are aware of relationship between themselves and their counselor and recognize the uniquely unstructured features of play therapy and …

Collaborative Research: SaTC: CORE: Small: Privacy protection of Vehicles location in Spatial Crowdsourcing under realistic adversarial models

Data management plan for the grant, "Collaborative Research: SaTC: CORE: Small: Privacy protection of Vehicles location in Spatial Crowdsourcing under realistic adversarial models." Research to develop new location privacy protection techniques by considering vehicles’ mobility features in the road network, and consequently lead to a more secure and trustworthy computing environment in location-based services (LBSs). As privacy concerns are still among the main obstacles for mobile users to participate in many advanced LBSs, this project is poised to contribute to the wider adoption of LBSs for many applications (e.g. navigation systems and location-based recommendation systems). The project will also provide a set of diverse and interesting topics for undergraduate and graduate students and outreach activities for the community.

Collection Assessment Through DEI Lenses: Venturing into (nearly) uncharted waters

Presentation for a panel discussing UNT Libraries' journey to address systemic and systematic vestiges of oppression of socially and politically minoritized populations. For this purpose, the Collection Assessment Department is planning on evaluating the UNT Libraries’ collections, identifying sources of diverse materials, and connecting with our communities. They will conduct focus groups and pilot a method on one aspect of their collections. For this panel discussion, self-selected members of an advisory board for this project will discuss their individual motivations for and concerns about the project. It was presented at the 2022 Cross Timbers Library Collaborative Conference which was held virtually on July 29, 2022.
