This document describes how the authors can extend a relational database of MARC documentation to store the appropriate information that will support the automatic generation of the special, diagnostic MARC records the authors will call radioactive MARC (RadMARC) records. The information contained in the database will also support the generation of the Z queries used in the interoperability testing.

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an oral interview with Fred Wersebe, Jr. Wersebe joined the Navy in the late 1930s. He was sent to China to serve on the USS Black Hawk (AD-9) and became a machinist mate. Wersebe describes pre-war Shanghai and some his experiences on liberty and shore patrol. He was sent back to the US and assigned to a destroyer and served in several battles. Wersebe mentions one incident where he saw the face of a Japanese pilot who had tried to torpedo his ship off of Okinawa. He was sent to China near the end of the war to work with SACO and was captured by the Japanese for a short time. Wersebe describes his liberation and return to the US. He reenlisted as a chief and served aboard destroyers for several years.

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an oral interview with Robert Stahl. Stahl qualified for aviation cadet training in the Army Air Forces in June 1943. In May 1944, he reported for bombardier training in New Mexico. When he got to England in early 1945, he was assigned to the 93rd Bomb Group. Stahl flew 21 combat missions as a bombardier in a B-24. Stahl shares several anecdotes about flying mission, living on base and exploring England. He returned to the US and was training as a bombardier in B-29s when the war ended.

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an oral interview with Gail Freeman. Freeman joined the Minnesota National Guard in 1940 and his unit was federalized in early 1941. His artillery unit, the 125th Field Artillery, was folded into the w34th Infantry Division and Freeman landed in Ireland in May 1942. Freeman served as a radio operator with a forward observer. His first action was in Tunisia. He then went with the unit to Salerno and fought at Monte Cassino. He finally entered the hospital with battle fatigue and was returned to the US where he ended the war guarding German prisoners of war in Nebraska.

Correspondence issued by the Government Accountability Office with an abstract that begins "In recent years, Congress has raised concerns about cost growth in the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) operating budget. Appropriators noted several expenses in FAA's fiscal year 2004 facilities and equipment (F&E) account budget submission that appeared to be ongoing operating expenses. The House and Senate appropriations subcommittee reports on FAA's fiscal year 2004 budget submission highlighted 17 such budget items and recommended that the expenses for these items either be transferred to the operations budget or not receive funding. As a result of these concerns, the Conference Report accompanying the fiscal year 2004 Omnibus Appropriations Act directed us to conduct an audit of FAA's policies and practices for determining whether an expense should be budgeted in its operating accounts or in the capital account. Specifically, this report addresses the following questions: (1) What are FAA's policies for determining whether an expense--including personnel compensation, benefits, travel, and related expenses--belongs in its capital (F&E) or Operations accounts? (2) How did FAA implement its policies for determining whether 17 specific budget line items identified by appropriators belong in its F&E or Operations accounts, including personnel compensation, benefits, travel, and related expenses? …

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an interview with Harlan Crouse. Crouse joined the Army in October 1944 and trained at Camp Hood. He arrived in Manila in April, 1945 as a replacement in the 1st Cavalry Division to prepare further for the invasion of Japan. In early September, his unit departed for Japan. Crouse shares several anecdotes about his experiences during the occupation. He eventually began serving as troop clerk, and then moved up to battalion sergeant major. Crouse remained in Japan, returning to the US to be discharged in November, 1946.

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an interview with Robert Plantz. Plantz was drafted into the Army in August of 1945. He completed his training in Camp Robinson, Arkansas. He was assigned to the 541st Quartermaster Corps and stationed in France during peace time. He operated the M29 81mm and the M19 60mm mortars. He describes life in France and the state of the buildings after the war. He was discharged in December of 1947.

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an oral interview with Winfred Hartman. Hartman was drafted into the Army in June 1943. During his basic training in North Carolina, he was selected to be a medic. In January, 1944, he shipped to England where he worked in a replacement depot administering shots and processing paper records. After the Battle of the Bulge, Hartman was sent to join the 359th Regiment, 90th Infantry Division as a medic. He shares several anecdotes about his time in combat dealing with wounded and injured GIs. Hartman's unit was in Czechoslovakia when the war in Europe ended. He started home for the US in late November 1945.

Response form from Donnis Baggett to the TDNA Directors in regard to two directors serving on the TDNA board having resigned. Due to the significance of a full-staff, Baggett states that it is important to fill the two board positions immediately. As President of TDNA, Baggett has nominated two individuals to fill the board openings with the boards approval and to respond with their decision.

Correspondence issued by the Government Accountability Office with an abstract that begins "Since the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, the federal government has undertaken numerous actions to enhance the nation's homeland security, including the creation of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). One of the primary reasons for the establishment of DHS was to unify the vast national network of organizations and institutions involved in efforts to protect our nation. Since it began operations on March 1, 2003, DHS has faced enormous challenges to protect the nation from terrorism while it organizes itself into a coherent and integrated agency. We support Congress by reviewing various government programs and activities to help improve their performance and accountability. When our work identifies a significant need for action by the Congress or an agency, we develop recommended solutions. These recommendations identify actions we believe the department, agency, bureau, or office should implement to ensure government programs operate effectively and efficiently. This report responds to a Congressional request that we provide status information on key recommendations we have made to DHS and its legacy agencies. Testimony issued by the General Accounting Office with an abstract that begins "This testimony is based on GAO's October 2003 report, Farmer Mac: Some Progress Made, but Greater Attention to Risk Management, Mission, and Corporate Governance Is Needed (GAO-04-116). GAO's testimony presents a brief overview of Farmer Mac and discusses issues raised in its 2003 report, including Farmer Mac's risk management practices and line of credit with Treasury, mission related activities, board structure, and oversight, which is provided by the Farm Credit Administration (FCA)."

Testimony issued by the General Accounting Office with an abstract that begins "Flaws in software code can introduce vulnerabilities that may be exploited to cause significant damage to federal information systems. Such risks continue to grow with the increasing speed, sophistication, and volume of reported attacks, as well as the decreasing period of the time from vulnerability announcement to attempted exploits. The process of applying software patches to fix flaws--patch management--is critical to helping secure systems from attacks. At the request of the House Committee on Government Reform and the Subcommittee on Technology, Information Policy, Intergovernmental Relations, and the Census, GAO reviewed the (1) reported status of 24 selected agencies in performing effective patch management practices, (2) tools and services available to federal agencies, (3) challenges to this endeavor, and (4) additional steps that can be taken to mitigate risks created by software vulnerabilities. This testimony highlights the findings of GAO's report, which is being released at this hearing."

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an interview with Joseph Quick. Quick joined the Marine Corps in August, 1943. He trained as an airplane mechanic and went overseas in November, 1944. His overseas diary is transcribed into the record (November 1944 through October 1945). Quick served at the Philippines and at Okinawa.

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an interview with Kenneth Alberding. Alberding joined the Army Air Forces in January of 1943. He completed navigation training, and also worked in the photo lab printing publicity photos of cadets. He completed radio school in April of 1944 in Traux Field, Madison, Wisconsin. He worked in the Headquarters unit, 456th Squadron, as a radio mechanic on B-29s. He remained in the US throughout the war and was discharged in January of 1946.
