Second Generation Advanced Reburning for High Efficiency NOx Control (open access)

Second Generation Advanced Reburning for High Efficiency NOx Control

This project is designed to develop a family of novel NO{sub x} control technologies, called Second Generation Advanced Reburning (SGAR) which has the potential to achieve 90+ NO{sub x} control in coal fired boilers at a significantly lower cost than Selective Catalytic Reduction. The tenth reporting period in Phase II (January 1-March 31, 2000) included proof-of concept tests in the 10 x 10{sup 6} Btu/hr Tower Furnace. Several variants of Second Generation Advanced Reburning (SGAR) were studied, including AR-Lean, AR-Rich, reburning + SNCR, and Multiple Injection Advanced Reburning (MIAR). Tests demonstrated that the SGAR performance was the most effective under MIAR conditions achieving maximum overall NO{sub x} reduction of 96%.

SEQUENCE STRATIGRAPHIC ANALYSIS AND FACIES ARCHITECTURE OF THE CRETACEOUS MANCOS SHALE ON AND NEAR THE JICARILLA APACHE INDIAN RESERVATION, NEW MEXICO-THEIR RELATION TO SITES OF OIL ACCUMULATION (open access)

SEQUENCE STRATIGRAPHIC ANALYSIS AND FACIES ARCHITECTURE OF THE CRETACEOUS MANCOS SHALE ON AND NEAR THE JICARILLA APACHE INDIAN RESERVATION, NEW MEXICO-THEIR RELATION TO SITES OF OIL ACCUMULATION

Oil distribution in the lower part of the Mancos Shale seems to be mainly controlled by fractures and by sandier facies that are dolomite-cemented. Structure in the area of the Jicarilla Apache Indian Reservation consists of the broad northwest- to southeast-trending Chaco slope, the deep central basin, and the monocline that forms the eastern boundary of the San Juan Basin. Superimposed on the regional structure are broad low-amplitude folds. Fractures seem best developed in the areas of these folds. Using sequence stratigraphic principals, the lower part of the Mancos Shale has been subdivided into four main regressive and transgressive components. These include facies that are the basinal time equivalents to the Gallup Sandstone, an overlying interbedded sandstone and shale sequence time equivalent to the transgressive Mulatto Tongue of the Mancos Shale, the El Vado Sandstone Member which is time equivalent to part of the Dalton Sandstone, and an unnamed interbedded sandstone and shale succession time equivalent to the regressive Dalton Sandstone and transgressive Hosta Tongue of the Mesaverde Group. Facies time equivalent to the Gallup Sandstone underlie an unconformity of regional extent. These facies are gradually truncated from south to north across the Reservation. The best potential for additional oil …

Texas Register, Volume 25, Number 13, Pages 2717-2868, March 31, 2000

A weekly publication, the Texas Register serves as the journal of state agency rulemaking for Texas. Information published in the Texas Register includes proposed, adopted, withdrawn and emergency rule actions, notices of state agency review of agency rules, governor's appointments, attorney general opinions, and miscellaneous documents such as requests for proposals. After adoption, these rulemaking actions are codified into the Texas Administrative Code.

Unconverted Light Management of the NIF-Wedged Lens Configuration

This document provides information on the distribution of unconverted light in the National Ignition Facility (NIF) target chamber with the wedged final focus lens that has been adopted by the NIF project. It includes a comparison of the wedged lens configuration with the color separation grating (CSG). There are significant benefits to the wedged lens design as it greatly simplifies experiment design.

VARIATIONAL APPROACH IN WAVELET FRAMEWORK TO POLYNOMIAL APPROXIMATIONS OF NONLINEAR ACCELERATOR PROBLEMS (open access)

VARIATIONAL APPROACH IN WAVELET FRAMEWORK TO POLYNOMIAL APPROXIMATIONS OF NONLINEAR ACCELERATOR PROBLEMS

In this paper the authors present applications of methods from wavelet analysis to polynomial approximations for a number of accelerator physics problems. According to a variational approach in the general case they have the solution as a multiresolution (multiscales) expansion on the base of compactly supported wavelet basis. They give an extension of their results to the cases of periodic orbital particle motion and arbitrary variable coefficients. Then they consider more flexible variational method which is based on a biorthogonal wavelet approach. Also they consider a different variational approach, which is applied to each scale.

Washing of the AN-107 entrained solids

This report describes the results of a test conducted by Battelle to assess the effects of inhibited water washing on the composition of the entrained solids in the diluted AN-107 low-activity waste (LAW) sample. The objective of this work was to gather data on the solubility of the AN-107 entrained solids in 0.01 M NaOH, so that BNFL can evaluate whether these solids require caustic leaching.

Washing of the AW-101 entrained solids (open access)

Washing of the AW-101 entrained solids

BNFL Inc. (BNFL) is under contract with the US Department of Energy, River Protection Project (DOE-RPP) to design, construct, and operate facilities for treating wastes stored in the single-shell and double-shell tanks at the Hanford Site, Richland, Washington. The DOE-BNFL RPP contract identifies two feeds to the waste treatment plant: (1) primarily liquid low-activity waste (LAW) consisting of less than 2 wt% entrained solids and (2) high-level waste (HLW) consisting of 10 to 200 g/L solids slurry. This report describes the results of a test conducted by Battelle to assess the effects of inhibited water washing on the composition of the entrained solids in the diluted AW-101 low-activity waste (LAW) sample. The objective of this work was to gather data on the solubility of the AW-101 entrained solids in 0.01 M NaOH, so that BNFL can evaluate whether these solids require caustic leaching. The work was conducted according to test plan BNFL-TP-29953-9, Rev. 0, LAW Entrained Solids Water Wash and Caustic Leach Testing. The test went according to plan, with no deviations from the test plan. Based on the results of the 0.01 M NaOH washing, a decision was made by BNFL to not proceed with the caustic leaching test. …

Calculation of Antiproton - Hydrogen Atom Scattering (open access)

Calculation of Antiproton - Hydrogen Atom Scattering

Being a three body problem, the scattering of an incoming antiproton (p{sup -}) by a hydrogen atom (H, consisting of an electron, e{sup -}, bound to a proton, p) is one of the simplest problems in quantum mechanics that requires a numerical solution. An appropriate choice of calculational method for this system depends on the energy of the p{sup -}. Described and compared here are three methods, valid in essentially separate energy ranges from zero energy through MeV energies. In spite of its seeming simplicity, much effort is required in terms of mathematical manipulation and use of approximations to render this problem capable of numerical solution.
