Moses Fisk Roberts, a notable soldier and congressman, was born on July 9, 1803, in Davidson County, Tennessee. Arriving in Texas with his family on February 19, 1836, he joined the Jasper Volunteer Company and became a second lieutenant. Unfortunately, he had to leave the army on June 22, 1836, due to the loss of his right eye. Settling in Shelby County, he was elected to the House of the Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Texas congresses. Throughout his distinguished political career, Roberts served as a representative for Shelby County, earning great respect from his peers and constituents. He was also known for his passion for farming and his beloved pack of fox hounds, which earned him the endearing nickname "Dog" Roberts. After a life dedicated to public service, Moses Fisk Roberts passed away in Shelby County in February 1888.
