Sergeant Hildenbrand answers questions and elaborates on his service time such as his training and incidents that his unit encountered. He tells of all the bombs the enemy would make and his being a part of the Tet Offensive of 1969.

Shortly thereafter, he joined the US Army Air Corps, where he examined candidates for jump school. He eventually was assigned as flight surgeon to the 19th Bomb Group and sent with them to Clark Field in the Philippines in October, 1941. The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an interview with Afton Keeton. Keeton joined the Navy in July of 1942. He completed Hospital Corps School and became a Pharmacist Mate. He first served aboard the USS Sea Dragon (SS-194). They patrolled the Aleutian Islands. He was then stationed at the Submarine Base in Pearl Harbor, working in a sick bay. He then served aboard the USS Apollo (AS-25) with a relief crew. He provides some detail of working aboard a submarine, serving as the Doc, living conditions and undergoing his own appendectomy aboard the Apollo. In early 1945 he was assigned for 1 year to serve at a submarine base in St. Thomas. He then served as hospital corpsman on the USS Clamagore (SS-343). Keeton also worked on sonar watch, radar watch and as a cook during his time in the Navy. He spent a total of 30 years in the Navy, retiring in February of 1972.

This report will examine each of these trade issues, discussing their main elements and exploring their implications for the 111th Congress. This will be followed by an analysis of key trends in bilateral trade to discern any potential sources of trade friction in the future.

U.S.-Vietnam diplomatic and economic relations remained essentially frozen for more than a decade after the 1975 communist victory in South Vietnam. Over the past decade, Washington and Hanoi have normalized relations incrementally. Congress has played a significant role in the normalization process.

U.S.-Vietnam diplomatic and economic relations were non-existent for more then fifteen years following communist North Vietnam’s victory in 1975 over the U.S. ally South Vietnam. Normalization of relations, particularly in the economic sphere, between the United States and unified Vietnam began in earnest in the 1990s. As the normalization process has proceeded, the U.S. has eliminated most of the Cold Warera restrictions on U.S. aid to Vietnam, and U.S. assistance has increased markedly from around $1 million when assistance was resumed in 1991 to nearly $50 million in FY2004.

Interview with Jerry L. Campbell, a U.S. Army veteran who served in the Vietnam War from Houston, Texas. Campbell describes his experiences in the war as a Chinook helicopter mechanic and the time his helicopter was shot down.

Interview with Leopoldo Chapa, a veteran of the U.S. Navy who served in the Vietnam War from Baytown, Texas. Chapa describes his time in boot camp, what he experienced while in combat, and his opinions on war in general.

Interview with James H. Gilbert, a member of the 1st Airborne Cavalry, 82nd Airborne Division during the Vietnam War. Gilbert gives lengthy answers and descriptions concerning his time in Vietnam, action he saw, weaponry, etc. Gilbert also shares some memorable stories, and his feelings towards the war as it was happening and in hindsight.

Interview with Wally Fowler, a pilot in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, retired in 1978. Fowler begins by giving an overview of his career in the Air Force and what he is currently doing, as well as going into detail about his experiences and duties while in Vietnam.

Interview with Donald Davis Kaiser, an Army veteran of the Vietnam War, originally from Yoakum, Texas. Kaiser answers many questions regarding his training in the United States, to which he recalls that basic training was very difficult and miserable. The interview goes on to discuss his time while overseas in Vietnam including combat during the Tet Offensive in early 1968.

Interview with John David Burgess, a veteran of the U.S. Army who served in Vietnam as a helicopter crew chief with the 196th Infantry Brigade from Baytown, Texas. Burgess describes his experiences during the war and what a typical day was like while in Vietnam. He also speaks about an incident where the plane he was flying was shot down by enemy fire.

Interview with Kenneth Larry Clemmons, a U.S. Army veteran who served in the Vietnam War from Houston, Texas. Clemmons describes his time in basic training and experiences in Vietnam, including seeing Bob Hope and how he was treated upon returning to the United States.
