Pair-Polarimeter for High Energy Protons (open access)

Pair-Polarimeter for High Energy Protons

The angle correlation in e{sup +}e{sup {minus}} pair production by linear polarized photon was proposed for photon polarization measurements by Yang and Berlin and Madansky. An accurate QED calculation with analysis of the possible experimental setup was done by L Maximon and H. Olsen. The effect was used successfully for measurement of the beam polarization. The limitation of the method at photon energies above 100 MeV arises from the small value of an angle between pair components. They propose a new polarimeter for high energy photons based on the well known correlation in electron-positron pair production from an amorphous converter. The detector design utilizes silicon micro-strip detectors that allow the construction of a compact device useful in the few GeV photon energy range. The most important features of these detectors are the capability to detect two tracks separated by a very small distance ({approximately} 100 microns) and very good position resolution, ({approximately} a few microns). Because the typical opening angle in e{sup +}e{sup {minus}} pair is about 1/{gamma} and available space for a polarimeter is about 1 meter, the distance e{sup +}e{sup {minus}} is about a fraction of mm. It means that at the photon energies of interest, most of …

SQL Data Analysis Procedures to Create Aggregate and Candidate Record Groups on Sample of Decomposed MARC Records Phase 1 Testing

This document describes the data analysis procedures developed to create the Aggregate and Candidate Record Groups using SQL statements. This is the preliminary version of these procedures tested and validated on a sample of decomposed MARC records. (For a description of how the MARC records were decomposed see the Z-Interop document, Decomposing MARC 21 Records for Analysis. A subsequent version may be necessary as the authors move to the procedures for the entire file of decomposed records.

Anomalous momentum dependence of the quasiparticle scattering ratein overdoped Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 (open access)

Anomalous momentum dependence of the quasiparticle scattering ratein overdoped Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8

The question of the anisotropy of the electron scattering in high temperature superconductors is investigated using high resolution angle-resolved photoemission data from Pb-doped Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8(Bi2212) with suppressed superstructure. The scattering rate of low energy electrons along two bilayer split pieces of the Fermi surface is measured (via the quasiparticle peak width), and no increase of scattering towards the antinode (Pi,0) region is observed, contradicting the expectation from Q=(Pi, Pi) scattering. The results put a limit on the effects of Q=(Pi, Pi) scattering on the electronic structure of this overdoped superconductor with still very high Tc.
