Every year the Beaux Arts Society committee selects the knig based on his civic and personal achievements. The honoree is notified on his selection, but his identity is kept a secret until the evening of the Beaux Arts Ball, which is always held on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Boyle was flattered to be selected this year. "It came as a surprise to me," he said, adding that he went to great lengths to keep his identity a secret until the ball. "I would have preffered to buy my tails in Oklahoma City, but I went out of state to buy them to keep it a secret," he confided. Boyle, who serves on the boards of Omniplex Science Museum, said that in the early years of his career as a geologist, he spent a lot time away from home. "I had a rusty door key," he said."
