Recording of Frederick L. Malouf's What it is ain't exactly clear.... This work is a "remix" of a recording the composer made at a family reunion in 1995. It is the third in a series that uses the same sound material, however in this piece the sounds are much more processed. The title comes from the lyrics to "For What It's Worth" by Stephen Stills which is about the turbulence in the 1960's. The composer also used family photos which were transformed into sound using the MetaSynth software program.

Soft Dawn over Whispering Island

Chimera in Kosovo

This work represents the suffering of Kosovo refugees during wartime and utilizes radio mediums to further give the impression of the horrors and fears experienced by the victims. Elementa

Recording on Jean-Claude Risset's Elementa. This piece is for 4 track magnetic tape. It was written for the Ministry of Culture for the fiftieth anniversary of "musique concrete" and realized by INA GRM Groupe de recherche musicale. This piece consists of 4 movements: Aqua, Focus, Aer, and Terra. Each movement corresponds to a different element and according to the composer different states of matter as well. The composer intends for each track of magnetic tape to be played in each corner of the room. The composer thanks François Bayle, Daniel Teruggi, and François Donato.

Tavola VII

This work is one of a series of pieces called Tavole in which the timbre and dynamic possibilities of the musical instruments were studied. Tavola VII, nicknamed “of the sequences of harmonics”, utilizes the sound possibilities that the string instrument. The aim is to work into the sound, directly modeling the acoustic material.

Transition

Recording of Gary Berger's Transition. Transition is an attempt to create relationships between simple and complex sounds, and also to produce tensions between static and rhythmic events which transform into a continuum. Transition is meant to be the expression of inner intensity and change. This composition was a commission on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Swiss Center for Computer Music (Schweizerisches Zentrum für Computermusik). It was realized between October and December 1995 at the studios of the Swiss Center of Computer Music.

The Still Life with Pierot

Recording of Ricardo Pérez Miró's Entre la noche y el océano. This work was based on materials previously digitized at the LIPM del Centro Cultural Ciudad de Buenos Aires. Many of these sound samples were derived from piano and other acoustic sounds. The composer treated these sounds in an orchestral manner, alternating between individual lines and more complex accumulations.
