Ken Simpson, 72, did such a good job of convincing producers to do the story, that he landed the job of playing the lead character in an episode to be telecast later this month. He will play the part of St. Joseph, who some believe built a spiral staircase in the late 1870s in the Loretto Chapel in Santa Fe. His sons, Rick and Larry, and friend Max L. Hines, all of Enid, play tourists visiting the cathedral."

Photograph used for a story in the Daily Oklahoman newspaper. Caption: "Most people steer clear of tornadoes, but Gary C. Smith wants to get as close as he can to one. The Arizona inventor, who has an office in Las Vegas, wants to extinguish a tornado using a 150-pound bomb flown into the full force of a twister with a remote-controlled helicopter. His theory is that the explosion will cause the tornado to "burn up," much like using fire to fight fire. The Oklahoma Water Resources Board, which regulates weather modification activities in the state, rejected Smiths idea when he applied last year, but he came to Enid again last month, pitching his idea."
