Studies on the Carotenoid Pigments of Corynebacterium Poinsettiae (open access)

Studies on the Carotenoid Pigments of Corynebacterium Poinsettiae

The Effects of EDTA Chelation Therapy on Plaque Calcium and Mineral Metabolism in Atherosclerotic Rabbits (open access)

The Effects of EDTA Chelation Therapy on Plaque Calcium and Mineral Metabolism in Atherosclerotic Rabbits

New Zealand albino rabbits exhibited calcified aortic plaques and maximum average serum cholesterol levels of 1200 mg percent after twenty-three weeks on an atherogenic diet (250 to 500 mg percent cholesterol in ten percent corn oil; 200,00 I.U. vitamin D3 per month). One month following termination of the atherogenic diet, rabbits were treated with disodium edetate (Na2EDTA, 50 mg/kg body weight) via the marginal ear vein, on alternating days for a total of twenty infusions each. Aortae were examined for tissue calcium both quantitatively (direct microcomplexometric analysis) and histologically six weeks after completion of EDTA chelation therapy.

A History and Survey of the Baroque Motet for One Solo Voice Outside of Italy

During the Baroque Era (1600-1750) many motets were written for one solo voice, representing a major departure from the polyphonic motet settings which had been produced since before 1250. The study traces the development of the solo motet from it s first appearance in the Centro concerti ecclesiastici of Lodovico Grossi do Viadana in 1602 up to 1750, when the style began to deteriorate along with the Neapolitan opera style.

Colonial Dissociation in Neisseria Gonorrhoeae

The studies reported herein indicate that, under the conditions commonly employed for cultivating Neisseria gonorrhoeae, colonial type T1 and T2 cultures of the organism dissociate to type T3 and T4 forms, and that this occurs both among populations of the organism grown in liquid media as well as in individual, well-isolated colonies grown on solid media.

Sensible Sentiments : A Composition for Double Trio

The instrumentation is flute, B-flat clarinet, bassoon, violin, viola, and cello. The individual movements last four and one-half, four, and six minutes, respectively, with a total duration of fourteen and one-half minutes. The first movement is a theme and a series of nine sections that employ the variation principle. The second movement is characterized by its slow tempo and by its texture which is almost entirely homophonic. It is primarily concerned with gradual timbral changes created by special effects. The third movement, which is rapid in tempo, employs one main theme which provides four motives. This material is developed throughout the movement by frequent changes in meter, range, texture, and dynamics.

The Role of Textural Design in the Music of Olivier Messiaen: a Study of Couleurs De la Cité Céleste (open access)

The Role of Textural Design in the Music of Olivier Messiaen: a Study of Couleurs De la Cité Céleste

This study first traces the evolution of a new musical design, one which emphasizes textual elements in the structural foundation. It follows with an account of the life and musical style of Olivier Messian, a contemporary composer who has emphasized timbre as a structural parameter in his music - most notably in several works of the sixties. An analysis of his Couleurs de la Cité Céleste (1963) is offered in the final chapter, indicating in particular the important role that timbre, as well as other textual elements, plays on forming the large-scale design.
