In music education today there is a trend toward a greater understanding of the fundamentals of music. Investigations have been undertaken to determine exactly what a musical tone is made of and why individuals respond to it in certain ways. In all fields these endeavors have led to an objective view of what has been primarily a subjective area. A knowledge of why something happens or of a relationship between factors in a situation is always of ultimate value in teaching situations. In this light many studies have been done concerning musical tone analysis, and particularly, clarinet tone analysis. The clarinet has been the center of tone analysis for some thirty-five years, perhaps because it is an acoustical enigma, or perhaps because there are more clarinetists interested in analyzing their instrument. In any case, analyses have been performed dealing with characteristic partial spectrums, design of the bore in relation to the tone, effect of the reed on tone, effect of the player on tone, and comparisons of tones produced by clarinets made of various substances. The primary purpose of this thesis is to give a substantial generalization of the set of integers Z, where particular emphasis is given to number theoretic questions such as that of unique factorization. The origin of the thesis came from a study of a special case of generalized integers called the Gaussian Integers, namely the set of all complex numbers in the form n + mi, for m,n in Z. The main generalization involves what are called algebraic integers.

The critical interest in Henry James and his relationship with the "Gilded Age," or the "golden age of American business," indicates that a chronological study of the American businessman, as this character appears in James's fiction, may have some value. The present study is an investigation of certain aspects of the relationship which exists between the development of language of a child and the speech of his mother. The problem was divided into two parts: first, to identify the best mixtures using the selected vegetable ash; second, to alter successful glazes with set percentages of colorants. The main objective of the study was to evaluate findings resulting from the variation of elements, firing conditions, and colorants used and to select successful glazes.

In order to create a motivational device to help students become more aware of their surroundings, an audio-visual project was chosen as the most effective means of reaching intermediate grade children in a low socio-ecomonic area. Although notable progress was made by the cited composers in increasing the bass trombone's usefulness in the orchestra, each composer also continued to use the bass trombone as it had been used in previous years, such as in doubling bass parts, harmonic backgrounds, and for strong rhythmic punctuations.

This study was concerned with determining the effectiveness of play therapy as measured by behavioral changes in interpersonal relationships, mature behavior patterns, and more adequate use of intellectual capacities. Client-centered play therapy appears to have grown out of the concept that it is the relationship between the therapist and the child that brings about change and growth. Rather than diagnostic or as preliminary to therapy, the relationship itself is seen as therapy. Problems are seen not in terms of their historical past, but rather as they exist in the immediate present and in terms of the child's own means of expression. The relationship offers to the child the opportunity to experience growth under the most favorable conditions. Like its adult counterpart, client-centered counseling, client-centered play therapy is based upon the hypotheses that the individual has within himself the capacity for growth and self-direction, and that these growth impulses are released within the therapeutic relationship established between the therapist and the child.
