Caption: "First caused an estimated $20,000 damage to a children's homenorth of Wewoka Wednesday afternoon destroying a large building housing the girls' dormitory, two dining rooms, and a food and clothing storage area and other facilities. No one was hurt by the blaze, but food stocks and dining facilities were destroyed for all of the 60 or more children, along with the sleeping facilities for the girls. Mrs. Opal Lewis, founder and president of Missionary Cosmopolitan Church Home, Inc., said a "rough guess" on damage would be "20,000 at least." The home is one the site of the former Miracle Hill children's home, Mrs. Lewis founded the present facility in June, 1963, after a series of newspaper articles about conditions lead to the closing of Miracle Hill. It was operated by Robert E. Stanley when closed. Mrs. Lewis said the destroyed building also housed office facilities, a gym, a chapel, and a library. Two organs, two pianos and "a room full of toys" also were lost in the blaze, she said. Tod Coley, Wewoka fire chief, said Mrs. Lewis reported the fire at 2:47 p.m. (continued on Page 2, Column …
