Effect of Emotional Stimulation on Recognition and Inference (open access)

Effect of Emotional Stimulation on Recognition and Inference

The purpose of this study was to make an assessment of the probable effects of extraneous stimulation on both cognitive achievement or learning, and emotional reactions and autonomic arousals of students. While the focus of interest was upon possible disruptive effects, the kinds of measurements projected would make it possible to observe some effects of either kind, disruptive or facilitative.

The Effect of Two Methods of Programming upon the Development of the Orchestra in a Secondary School (open access)

The Effect of Two Methods of Programming upon the Development of the Orchestra in a Secondary School

The present study was designed for the purpose of comparing the effectiveness of two methods of orchestral programming, demonstration and non-demonstration, upon (1) the musical perception of the members of a student body audience, and (2) the attitudes of the members of a student body toward orchestra as a school subject. This comparison of demonstration and non-demonstration programming involved the question concerning the effectiveness of instructive listening as compared with free listening in the development of musical perception and attitudes. The problem of the present study is presented in the following major areas: (1) musical perception, end (2) attitudes.

Effects of Altitude on Pressure-Flow Relationships in the Vascular Bed of the Hind Limb of the Dog (open access)

Effects of Altitude on Pressure-Flow Relationships in the Vascular Bed of the Hind Limb of the Dog

The purpose of this investigation was to study the effects of decreasing barometric pressure upon the pressure-flow relationships in a peripheral vascular bed in an attempt at better delineation of the autoregulatory mechanisms. A decrease in barometric pressure does influence the transmural pressure and could theoretically affect smooth muscle tone. An evaluation of the extent of the transmural effect is essential to understanding vascular dynamics at altitudes.

Employment of Older Persons as Foster Grandparents (open access)

Employment of Older Persons as Foster Grandparents

This thesis is a report of a study of the employment of foster grandparents for the foster grandparent project at the Denton State School in Denton, Texas. There were three specific interests in the study. First, it attempted to ascertain what criteria were used for the hiring of foster grandparents and how they were hired. Included in this area were the necessary steps which an individual had to take to apply for employment. Second, the study was concerned with developing a general description of the social and economic characteristics of those who were hired as foster grandparents, including their performance on certain tests which they took during the employment process. Third, it examined the relationship of selected social and economic characteristics to each other, the inter-relationships of test performance, and the relationships between the selected characteristics and test performance.
