From abstract: The concept of using high intensity beta radiation from an isotopic source, Sr-90, inside a high temperature, high pressure chemical reactor has been developed for potential radiation chemical processes. Distinct advantages include high utilizable intensity from a relatively small source with a minimum of shielding against external radiation.

From abstract: Charts in this report show axial stress distribution over exterior bellows surfaces induced by bellows axial deflection, and by internal pressurization. The influence of root rings on stress distribution is presented graphically.

The present study was undertaken for the purpose of determining the feasibility, establishing the required development program, and estimating the cost of a turbocirculator to provide the pumping power for a 1000-Mw(e) high-temperature gas-cooled reactor power plant as part of the TARGET program. This necessitated preliminary design of the turbocirculator in conjunction with the reactor power plant as well as the investigation of methods for the optimization of the turbocirculator and for its development. This study was carried out in sufficient detail to fix the methods required to resolve the problems that would be encountered during the course of a prototype program resulting in a turbocirculator for the TARGET power plant.

Summary: "This report provides data on the alluvial aquifer of the Lower Mississippi Valley in the area between Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and Port Gibson, Mississippi. Maps are presented of the Tertiary surface on which the alluvial aquifer rests as well as the geology of this surface and the areas where hydrologic recharge to the alluvial aquifer may occur. A set of piezometric-surface maps, together with hydrographs of observation wells, river stages, precipitation rates, and data on the hydrologic properties of the alluvium, makes it possible to calculate changes which take place in the aquifer. Further data are presented on the chemical quality of groundwater. The relevance of these data to engineering problems is discussed" (p. ix).

With oxide fuel and helium, CO2, and SO2 coolant at pressures of 1000 to 1500 psia, the reactors have slightly higher breeding ratios than comparable sodium-cooled reactors.

Report discussing the problem of point-to-point radio communication on the moon. Equations and curves are presented to estimate power requirements in lunar communication systems. Consideration is given to ground wave attenuation over both layered and non-layered grounds, antenna ground losses in situations where ground screens are impractical, noise level estimates in the receiving system, and the effects on propagation of possible lunar ionospheres. An example of the calculation of required power for a particular communication system is given, and further studies are suggested.
