A Vance Air Force Base T-37 jet trainer plane crashed and burned Thursday afternoon six miles from here. The instructor pilot was killed after he bailed out and was dragged by his parachute through a three-strand barbed wire fence. The student pilot, who also bailed out, was dragged by the 40-mile-an-hour south wind. he was flown by rescue helicopter to Blackwell General Hospital."

To be constructed at N Eastern and 16, the building will house a gymnasium, swimming pool, dressing rooms, conference rooms, social hall with a stage, lobby, canteen and fully-equipped kitchen. the Stiles Street Branch building at 300 N Stiles is a former hospital and is in poor condition. Funds raised in the month-long YWCA campaign also will be used to remodel the downtown YWCA building and construct facilities for the Ione Branch."

Caption: "Shrinking Water line has left most of sprawling Lake Altus resembling a parched basin with the reservoir at its lowest level since 1957. The water line shows how the lake has receded from its normal stage when the shoreline extends to the dotted lines. Today, Lake Altus has only 16,800 acre-feet of water, a drop from its whopping 139,000 acre-feet capacity. During the spring and summer, about 70,000 acre feet of water was released to farmers in the Lugert-Altus Irrigation District. this was based on an allotment of nine inches of water per irrigable acre for the 1964 season at $5 per acre-foot. To date, around 54,000 acres of land in the district have been irrigated from the lake. In all, 65,000 acres are under irrigation."
