Natural Grass Range on Fire

Photograph of eight UNIDENTIFIED fire fighters extinguishing a native grass range fire behind a fireguard. The back of the photograph proclaims, "Approximately 600 acres of native grass range in excellent condition was set on fire by lightning 8-12-61. It took approximately 100 men and 6 fire trucks to put this fire out. Before the fire, the range had a carrying capacity of about 7 acres per mother cow unit. It has been sprayed with 2, 4-D last year for ragweed control and had improved to excellent condition. With proper management, it will take approximately 4 years for this grass to come back to excellent condition. Note: Fire guard along fence which aided in controlling the fire and kept losses to a minimum."
