From introduction: Under the general supervision of the Health Division of the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory, the U.S. Geological Survey is participating in geologic and hydrologic studies of the tile field constructed in Jackass Flats in the southwestern part of the Nevada Test Site as related to waste disposal, M. D. Shutler rendered valuable assistance in obtaining and evaluating portions of the data in this report. These investigations were done on behalf of the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission and were supported by the Division of Reactor Development and by the Albuquerque Operations Office.

Introduction: The United States Atomic Energy Commission is considering the establishment of a townsite in the vicinity of Mercury, Nevada, to facilitate operations at the Nuclear Rocket Development Station on the Nevada Test Site.

From introduction: This report contains part of the geologic information obtained from investigations conducted by the USGS on behalf of the AEC to determine the geologic environment of the underground test sites at Nevada Test Site.

From introduction: The maps and tables comprising this report are being transmitted at this time to provide interested users with a summary of the geology of the Ul2e tunnel system. The system was constructed to provide access to underground test sites. This report contains part of the geologic information obtained from investigations conducted by the U. S. Geological Survey to determine the geologic environment of the underground test sites. Results of geophysical and radiometric surveys, and physical properties are being studied. This work was done on behalf of the U. S. Atomic Energy Commission.

The following report covers the study of the site adjacent to Campbell Cove on Bodega Head, Sonoma County, California, focusing on questions such as: 1) its position relative to the San Andreas fault zone; 2) the possibility that minor faults, related to the San Andreas fault, might actually pass through the site; and 3) the seismic hazards posed by the nearby San Andreas fault zone.

"The surficial deposits of Yucca Flat, divided into eleven units, are shown at a scale of 1:48,000 (fig. 1A). Major rock types of the bordering bedrock areas are indicated, as are the lithologies of portions of the surficial units. The map explanation (fig. 1B) includes a description of the surficial units." (page 2)

The following report summarizes the hydrologic data collected during the nuclear detonation, the Bilby event, that took place in the U3cn emplacement hole.

Abstract: "Recent request for new sites has prompted an overall review of the Pahute Mesa area. The criteria used in this review are that the geology must be favorable and that horizontal spacing of emplacement holes being developed should be 2.5 to 3 times hole depth. The review shows that current emplacement requirements have exhausted available explored sites and have effectively eliminated 90 percent of the blocks of ground geologically favorable for chambered sites."
