Photograph is of a wooden dormitory building that has flames and smoke quickly rising from the roof. Flames are shooting out the window openings many feet high. Photograph was taken int he day time. Caption: "Going up in smoke is the main building of the historical Indian Boarding School for Girls at Eufaula. Fire gutted the 70 year old structure about noon Friday. Mrs. Toru Herndon, school Superintendent, said damage will amount to several thousand dollars. Also destroyed in the fire were Christmas gifts for the 665 girls of the school."

Grass, Legume and Forb Cultivation

Photograph of a legume crop on a strip mine spoil area. This fast growing plant was first planted about 8 years ago, but did not spread much until 1957. Mr. Burdett reports vines getting to 45 feet long in one growing season. A district cooperator since 1955. OK-1414-10.

Photograph of Kudzu pasture. W. H. Burdett's cattle grazing on 50 acres of Kudzu grown on the spoils of coal strip mines. According to Burdett, this vigorous, fast growing legume is very liked by his cattle. He controls the grazing and rotates between this and Bermudagrass pasture. OK-1499-6.
