Photograph taken for a newspaper owned by the Oklahoma Publishing Company. Caption: "Wreckage of a Benson Gyrocopter in which an Oklahoma City swimming pool firm executive plunged to his death is shown where it crashed near Cimarron Field. A 38-year-old Oklahoma City business executive plunged to his death Tuesday near Cimarron Field in Canadian County in a gyrocopter he built himself. Witnesses said Robert D. Paddock, a partner with his brother, John, in Paddock Pools, was killed when his Experimental helicopter-type aircraft went into a steep dive, causing the rotor blade to disintegrate. The craft plummeted into a field just north of the Cimarron runway two miles south of Banner. A spokesman for Paddock's family at the home, 4801 N Byron Place, said Paddock had been constructing the Benson Gyrocopter craft for several weeks as a hobby. The spokesman said Tuesday's fatal flight was one of the first, if not the first, that Paddock had made in the ill-fated plane, The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported the accident occurred at 6:05 p.m. after the one-man craft had made a circle over the airport."
