Scandals captions transcript

Scandals

This video was created from a digitized 35 mm filmstrip and vinyl record used by the National Republican Congressional Committee in their campaign for Dwight D. Eisenhower and Richard Nixon in the 1952 presidential election. The presentation tallies cases of "dishonesty and corruption" under President Harry S. Truman in the departments Agriculture, Internal Revenue Services, Defense, Justice, Commerce, State, Treasury, and Interior. The presentation also discusses scandal and corruption in the Reconstruction Finance Corporation (RFC), the United States Post Office, the Federal Housing Agency, Office of Price Stabilization, Veteran's Administration, Maritime Commission, Atomic Energy Commission, and the Democratic National Committee. The presentation argues that gambling, drug use, and juvenile delinquency can be traced back to the White House and lists numerous people associated with the Truman administration and Democratic National Committee who have been involved in scandal and corruption including Tom Pendergast, Harry Vaughan, Matthew Connelly, William M. Boyle, Jr., James P. Finnegan, Loretta Young, Frank Erickson, and Alger Hiss.
