Larry McMurtry published in an alternative literary magazine known as the Coexistence Review. One entry was to become a part of his first novel, Horseman, Pass By. McMurtry worked on this magazine with Grover Lewis and John Lewis.

Photograph of Oak Street Hall at North Texas State College. The east wing was the original part of the building, build in 1941-1942, as a two story, brick veneer apartment house erected by Mrs. W. J. McConnell. It was built to house one hundred women. A later addition increased the space and allowed another one hundred and twenty-five to be housed.
