Oralloy Cylindrical Shape Factor and Critical Mass Measurement in Graphite, Paraffin, and Water Tampers

Critical mass of an Oy (93.9%) sphere in graphite is given as a function of graphite tamper thickness. It was shown that approximately 20(in) of graphite is effectively infinite and that the approximately 17(in) used herein is approximately 98% infinite. Critical mass measurements of Oy (93.9%) spheres and cylinders of different diameters are given for approximately 17(in) graphite tamper, for effectively infinite paraffin tamper, and for effectively infinite water tamper. From these measurements cylindrical shape factors were computed. Both shape factors and critical masses are shown in Figs. 22 and 23 as function of the critical height to diameter rate of the cylinders.

Beneficiation of Monument Number 2 Ore Apache County, Arizona

From introduction: The Monument No. 2 mine is in the Navajo Indian Reservation, Apache County, Arizona, about 20 miles southwest from the San Juan River at Mexican Hat, Utah, and 26 miles southwest from Mexican Water, Arizona. The property has been operated, since its discovery, by Vanadium Corporation of America, which holds a 10-year mining lease, granted through the Interior Department, to 43 acres of ground. History of the discovery of the deposit is vague, but reportedly it was first seen around 1942 by a Navajo who mentioned the occurrence to Harry Goulding, Indian trader, who in turn advised D. W. Viles of Vanadium Corporation of America. Minor portions of the deposit are held by Cato Sells and Harvey Black, Navajos, under mining permits issued by the Navajo Tribal Council. The Sells acreage is being operated by Climax Uranium Corporation.

An error Analysis of R-C Timers

The results of this paper show that a variation is sensing voltage produces an error in timing which increases logarithmically with time interval. Also, variation in supply voltage produces the same type of errors, but the errors are decreased by the ratio of the sensing to supply voltage. An interesting conclusion from this analysis is that if the ratio of supply to sensing voltages is maintained constant, no change in timing will result.

The Reactor Design and Development Unit has just completed a design concept for an intermediate capacity dual purpose reactor plant utilizing carbon steel for the primary loop portion outside the reactor. This design concept is reported in HW-33157 AD (2). The economic and engineering gains are of sufficient magnitude to justify an accelerated and extensive test program to completely evaluate the remaining unknowns in utilizing carbon steel as a stainless steel substitute. It is the purpose of this document to up-date and elaborate the information contained in the two previous documents (1). . It is the further purpose to define the program required to implement the design concept developed by the Reactor Design and Development Unit (2) utilizing carbon steel as the primary loop structural material.

A Transistorized Binary Counter for Extreme Environments

A transistorized binary counter circuit is described that operates over a temperature range of -65 degree F to +165 degree F. the supply voltage is 28 + 4 volts and the maximum trigger repetition rate is 5 kilocycles. the binary circuit is pre-settable and resettable by means of a switching arrangement that can be mechanized. Texas Instrument type 904 silicon transistors whose large signal current gain is 2.8 or greater at a -65 degree F can be used in this circuit.
