He notes the appointment of a special committee to define the Baptist position with reference to the separation of church and state and of his disappointment should there be any relaxation in the "age old Baptist position of complete separation of church and state", that it may be hard to adhere to the principle "in this day when there is such a widely held idea that it is the business of the government so to do".
