Wooten expresses his appreciation for the note from Carswell, that it added appreciably to the Christmas spirit and advises that he sent a copy of Carswell's note to his Mother.

A letter written to Dr. E. S. James, Editor of The Baptist Standard, from T. N. Carswell, dated January 10, 1958. Carswell discusses the attached editorial written by James, "Down with The Baptists" and addresses an inference that he finds unclear: "that our Baptist schools are in error when admission is granted to non-Baptists, and in admitting Baptists whose church record is amiss". Carswell advises of his disagreement with such a policy, of the effects of the possible application in the future. The article in question, which appeared in the January 1958 issue of The Baptist Standard, is attached, and includes the report regarding student protests at Wake Forest demonstrating against the convention for its ban on dancing on campus; condemnation of the action by Wake Forest trustees which allowed dancing on campus; praise regarding action taken by President J. C. Canipe; condemnation of students on any Baptist campus participating in unchristian demonstrations then presenting the theory these students are not Baptists which stems from schools accepting applicants from other denominations.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Carswell Travel Agency, Abilene, Texas, from Omar Burleson, House of Representatives, Washington, D. C., dated January 16, 1958. Burleson advises of his nomination of Thomas Dale Butler, Jr. to take the admission exam for the United States Air Force Academy noting that Carswell's recommendation of Butler carried much weight. The reverse side includes handwritten calculations and inked stamp date Jan. 31 1958.

A letter written to Mr. Carswell from Lucie K. Whitehead, San Antonio, Texas, dated February 26, 1958. Whitehead advises that she was afraid her telephone calls had bothered Carswell and assures him that she is not critical of him but was trying to understand their tax returns noting the "good deal of money" it might involve for which she should start making arrangements.

A letter written to Mrs. Whitehead from T. N. Carswell, dated March 2, 1958. Carswell acknowledges the receipt of her letter regarding her question on the amount of the tax shown on the return advising the question proved to be well founded. He apologizes for his mistake and encourages her appraisal of his work as needed, expresses his appreciation for the spirit of her letter and advises that it "but deepens an opinion I've long had of you". In a postscript to Whitehead, Carswell advises that he is working on her 1957 return and that he will forward a rough draft.

A letter addressed to the wife of a parolee from L. V. Porterfield, Supervisor of Classification, Oklahoma State Penitintiary, dated March 11, 1958. Porterfield requests information from the wife of Subject 60604 regarding the background and personal life of subject.

A letter addressed to the Director of the Texas State Dept. of Public Welfare, Austin, Texas, from L. V. Porterfield, Classification Supervisor, Oklahoma State Penitentiary, McAlister, Oklahoma, dated March 11, 1958 and is a request for information on the background and personal life of Subject 60604.

A letter written to Mr. Vincent I. O'Leary, Director of Parole Supervision, Austin, Texas, from Floriene D. Case, Director of Special Services, Austin, Texas, dated March 14, 1958. Case requests assistance from O'Leary regarding Subject No. 60604 and advises of an attached letter of request.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Chairman, Taylor County Parole Board, from Vincent O'Leary, Director, Division of Parole Supervision (by John W. Walton, Supervisor), Board of Pardons and Paroles, Texas, dated March 25, 1958. Walton refers to correspondence from the State of Oklahoma requesting information regarding Subject No. 60604' - Okla. and then, in turn, requests information from Carswell regarding Subject No. 60604' - Okla.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Chairman, Taylor County Parole Board, from Vincent O'Leary, Director, Division of Parole Supervision, by John W. Walton, Supervisor, Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles, dated March 26, 1958. Walton apologizes to Carswell for the error in their letter regarding the reporting intervals required of Subject No. Calif. 17095. In addition to reporting in person every six months he requests that Subject make a written report each month.

A letter addressed to Mr. L. V. Porterfield, Oklahoma State Penitentiary, McAlister, Oklahoma, from T. N. Carswell, Chairman, Taylor County Parole Board, dated March 28, 1958. Carswell discusses the contents of a file received from the Board of Pardons and Paroles in Austin regarding the personal life of Subject No. 60604. He advises of a visit with the common law wife of Subject, that she had a file "fully as confusing" and that he threw both files into the waste basket.

A letter addressed to Mr. H. M. Randall, Director, Board of Parole and Probation, Salem, Oregon, from Jack Ross, Administrator, Interstate Parole Compact (by Vincent O'Leary, Director, Division of Parole Supervision), dated March 31, 1958. O'Leary refers to a letter from Randall requesting a report on Subject OSP 22624 and advises Randall that the volunteer parole officer in Taylor County reports that Subject's conduct has been good.

Williams advises Carswell of the delay in his writing concerning the opening of a new Abilene District Office due to the shuffling of personnel in their Division and the recent completion of plans. He announces Mr. James Dennis as the District Parole Officer for Abilene and expresses his belief that Carswell will enjoy working with Mr. Dennis.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Chairman, Taylor County Parole Board, from Joe L. Mays, District Judge, San Angelo, Texas, dated April 17, 1958. Mays acknowledges the receipt of a letter from Carswell containing enclosures concerning Subject, expresses his appreciation for the assistance from Carswell and notes his agreement with Carswell that his file is now closed.
