Kirk requests the delivery by Carswell to Subject 121,140 of the enclosed proclamations and, also, that Carswell file a copy. The enclosures includes two copies of a proclamation by the Governor of the State of Texas granting a ten-day extension of emergency reprieve to Subject No. 121,140, dated April 11, 1952 by Allan Shivers, Governor of Texas and John Ben Shepperd, Secretary of State.

Johnson advises Carswell that General Key is on the opposite side of the political fence from Senator Kerr thus making him of no use. He discusses how a business matter grew out of a professional jealousy advising that his firm went through depression and war periods successfully and that competitors have the right to take action against a tough competitor. He offers help for Carswell's daughter and states, "I have high ranking friends if I can be of assistance to your daughter in Europe or here." Handwritten postscript is an advisement regarding "Jap bonds coming to life" and a settlement insuring good profits being not far off.

Blackburn advises Carswell that the application for Full Pardon was denied Subject 121,140 advising that Subject should spend more time on his Conditional Pardon before applying for a Full Pardon.

Stone advises Christrian regarding a subject making application for full pardon. Typed at the bottom of the page is correspondence to Mr. Babich from [T. N. Carswell] Abilene, Texas dated June 23, 1953 requesting that Babich forward to him the necessary application blanks.

A letter written to Howard A. Carney, Secretary of State, Austin, Texas (Attn: Betty Christian, Chief, Parole Division), from Walter A. Gordon, Administrator (by Walter T. Stone, Deputy Administrator-Paroles), Sacramento 14, California dated December 16, 1953. Stone advises Christian to refer to the correspondence of September 1, 1953 for the reasons Subject No. 17095 must continue reporting.

A letter written to Mr. Landrum, from T. N. Carswell, dated February 16, 1954. Carswell gives his opinion of what Landrum wrote in his column advising that the solution to the increase in crime is not in an enlarged police force but that they must find out the cause of the increase in crime, that until the cause is known their "attempts at a solution are at most but well intentioned 'shots in the dark'".

A letter written to Miss Elia J. Hobbs from T. N. Carswell, dated March 16, 1954. Carswell explains the drouth and the run-down condition of her land advising that Mr. Presswood [C. W. Presswood] is reluctant to offer money for rent and offers instead that he should repair fences, clear cactus and get the place in order so it can be farmed, swapping improvments for rent.

A letter written to Judge Thomason, from T. N. Carswell, dated March 16, 1955. Carswell expresses his high regard for Thomason complimenting what he did in the Matusow and Witt affair stating, "How refreshing it is to be a TEXAN with an R. E. Thomason as a Federal Judge!"

A Western Union telegram sent to T. N. Carswell, Chairman, Taylor County Parole Board, Abilene, Texas, from the Board of Pardons & Paroles, Austin, Texas, dated 1955 MAR 16 425PM. The Board grants permission for Subject 40-7940 to go to California.

A letter written to Mr. Carswell from Blanche [Mrs. Earl] Darden], Abilene, Texas, dated March 16. Blanche explains that she has been in the hospital unexpectedly and that Dr. Seth Cox will operate on her jaw meaning she will be off work four or five weeks. She apologizes and offers options of payment on her contract with Carswell.

A letter written to Mr. John Wright, Chairman, Chamber of Commerce Agriculture Committee, City, from T. N. Carswell, dated December 16, 1957. Carswell requests that Wright's Committee sponsor a gathering for Mr. Walter Hammond of Tye, Texas, a "returning home" recognition and appreciation of his many years of service to farmers of Texas and the nation.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Carswell Travel Agency, Abilene, Texas, from Omar Burleson, House of Representatives, Washington, D. C., dated January 16, 1958. Burleson advises of his nomination of Thomas Dale Butler, Jr. to take the admission exam for the United States Air Force Academy noting that Carswell's recommendation of Butler carried much weight. The reverse side includes handwritten calculations and inked stamp date Jan. 31 1958.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from Vincent O'Leary, Director, Division of Parole Supervision, Austin, Texas (by Ray W. Williams, Supervisor, Southwest Area), dated April 16, 1958. Williams advises Carswell of the delay in his writing concerning the opening of a new Abilene District Office due to the shuffling of personnel in their Division and the recent completion of plans. He announces Mr. James Dennis as the District Parole Officer for Abilene and expresses his belief that Carswell will enjoy working with Mr. Dennis.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas from E. M. Collier, Administrator, Hendrick Memorial Hospital dated October 16, 1958. Collier issues a reminder for the Board Meeting and advises of the need for a two-thirds majority to be present for the loan approval. Dinner will be served.
