Potential by-Product Elements in the Phosphoria Formation of the Western States

Report discussing elements that may be by-products of mining or processing phosphate rock. Fluorimetric Determination of Uranium in Shales, Lignites, and Monazites After Alkali Carbonate Separation (open access)

Fluorimetric Determination of Uranium in Shales, Lignites, and Monazites After Alkali Carbonate Separation

Abstract: "Comparative data are presented on separations of microgram amounts of uranium from milligram amounts of various metal ions with Na2Co3-K2CO3, Na2CO3-K2CO3-H2O2, and Na2CO3-NaClO. The Na2CO3-K2CO3 separation procedure is applied to the analysis of shales, lignites, and monazites. This method will determine as little as 0.001 percent uranium in shales and lignites and 0.01 percent uranium in monazites."

Reconnaissance for Uranium-Bearing Carbonaceous Rocks in Northwestern Colorado, Southwestern Wyoming, and Adjacent Parts of Utah and Idaho (open access)

Reconnaissance for Uranium-Bearing Carbonaceous Rocks in Northwestern Colorado, Southwestern Wyoming, and Adjacent Parts of Utah and Idaho

Abstract: During parts of July, August, and September 1951, a reconnaissance was conducted in parts of Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, and Idaho in search of new deposits of uranium-bearing carbonaceous rocks. One significant uranium occurrence was found, the Fall Creek deposit, Bonneville County, Idaho. Several additional localities were discovered that contain uranium in concentrations many times that normally found in carbonaceous rocks.

Results of Core Drilling of Uranium-Bearing Lignite Deposits in Harding and Perkins Counties, South Dakota, and Bowman County, North Dakota (open access)

Results of Core Drilling of Uranium-Bearing Lignite Deposits in Harding and Perkins Counties, South Dakota, and Bowman County, North Dakota

Purpose: The main objective of the Dakota core drilling program was to determine reserves of uraniferous lignite based on chemical uranium and spectrographic determinations from unweathered samples, particularly from those areas where surface sampling of the beds during the previous field season indicated that significant deposits of uranium-bearing lignite might be present. A secondary objective was to obtain fresh samples and to measure the radioactivity of the overlying Oligocene White River and Miocene Arikaree formations from which the uranium in lignite is believed to have been derived.
