The purpose of this study is to show the development of the motion picture program as a teaching aid in South Marshall School, Marshall, Texas, to determine the value of the motion pictures in the social-studies program, with special emphasis upon learning and retention of facts and general information at the third- and sixth-grade levels, and to induce all teachers of the faculty to use the motion picture as a tool for a happier and more meaningful learning experience for boys and girls.

Grass, Legume and Forb Cultivation

Photograph of Soil Unit 12 FC, Class III. 24 acres in cultivation for nearly 100 years. In the fall of 1950, 10 acres were chiseled, fertilized with 500 pounds of 0-14-?? Fertilizer and 100 pounds of 33-0-0 and seeded with crimson clover. During 1951, the whole field gave 4360 animal days grazing plus 2000 pounds of crimson clover seed off 10 acres. The rest of the field (14 acres) was fertilized with 300 pounds of 0-12-12 fertilizer and 100 pounds of 16-0-0 per acre. During 1952 (drought year), the whole field gave 3916 animal days grazing plus 1800 pounds crimson clover seed from the 10 acres. The 10 acres received 100 pounds of 0-12-12 fertilizer and the whole field 100 pounds of 33-0-0 fertilizer per acre. Through June 12, 1953 (drought year), the whole field gave 2848 animal days grazing. On June 8, green vetch clippings showed 20480 pounds per acre on 10 acres compared harvested from a 10 acre area. [Labor Day T&P Float]

Copy photo of a float for the 1903 Marshall, Texas Labor Day parade built by the T&P shop there. The float is designed to look like a Texas & Pacific train car. The float is full of people, and a young man and boy are posing in front of it. Some onlookers can be seen on the right side of the image. Text on the image says "Among Our Souvenirs." Written below the photo are "[sic] Float which T&P shop employes - at Marshall built for the 1903 Labor Day parade in that city, pulled by two hefty mules. Standing in front are Lee Burnett, L a coach builder, who acted as 'Conductor' that day, and Rom Murff, the official 'Porter' a young painter at that time." and "T&P Topics, Jun 1950, pg 19."

Laura Virginia Groner Hall, East Texas Baptist College, Marshall, Texas

Black and white photo-postcard of the Laura Virginia Groner Hall, East Texas Baptist College, in Marshall, Texas, taken sometime in the 1940s or early 1950s. The two-story brick dormitory has a wide full-height entrance porch with six square columns and with three dormers and a central cupola in the roof. All of the windows have shutters. Five metal chairs are visible on the porch. It is on a sloping grassy site with wide steps leading up the slope. At the bottom of the image in white letters is the title, "Laura Virginia Groner Hall - East Texas Baptist College - Marshall, Texas. 6-J-81" There is a postmark on the back dated Feb. 2, 1954, and the card is addressed to The Dowdys, San Antonio, Texas. The format, quality, and number code are almost identical to another card in this collection with the publisher's name W. M. Cline Co., Chattanooga, printed on it, and this card was probably produced by the same company.
