Photograph of flood water damage. Sonny Flack, operator, surveying the damage done to freshly cut alfalfa in a Cane Creek Bottom field. This hay is no longer of any use and must be picked up and hauled away to prevent it from killing the growing alfalfa which it is resting on. Approximately 25 tons of excellent hay were lost from this overflow, the second in 1958. Cane Creek watershed is not protected from flooding. OK-631-2.

The damage is being inspected by John Crooch, Soil Conservation service [SCS] and C.E. Lagow, a neighbor, assisting Herman Flack to remove the usless hay from the field to protect the stand from further damage from the hay covering it. OK-6[unclear]-4.

The back of the photograph proclaims, "Bermuda Grass Roots. District equipment harvesting certified Midland Bermuda grass roots on Cooperator Vetus Clarkson's farm. Roots are being used by District to sprig on other cooperators farms in the District. Returns to cooperator from half of harvest rights will amount to $35.00 per acre and the District will fertilize to enable another harvest in 1960. This field was sprigged in 1955."

Photograph of fire fighting equipment fighting a grass fire. The truck is an army surplus 6x6 converted to a spray tank truck. It is very effective in fire control and prevention. This fire, on the Dillingham Ranch, destroyed grass on approximately 500 acres of excellent pasture land. Estimated loss $2500 to $3000. Cause of fire undetermined. Additional loss would have occurred if fire fighting equipment kept on the ranch had not been readily available.
