[Postcard of the Great Pier at Jamestown Exposition]

Postcard of a grand pier extending into the ocean at night, lit only by its own lights. The scene is described on the back with the words, "The Jamestown Exposition. The exposition celebrates the 300th anniversary of the beginning for the Nation. In 1607 John Smith, with other adventurers, set up a stockade on a peninsula of Powhatan's River (afterwards called the James), and named the settlement James City or Jamestown. From this grew Virginia and eventually, the United States. The site of the Exposition is of great natural beauty: it overlooks the historic waters of Hampton Roads, and around it cluster the populous cities of Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Newport News." The message on the back is illegible, but for the signature, "Auntie Curley." The postcard is addressed to "Miss Mamie McFaddin 1906 McFaddin Beaumont, Texas."
