"In this bulletin is given the record of a 65-acre hog farm in the black prairie region of Alabama. The method of farming described is applicable to the entire area in which corn, alfalfa, and Bermuda grass can be grown. This area includes the black lands of Texas, the river bottoms of Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi, and the alluvial soils generally in all the Southern States.... The primary object in the work of this farm was to demonstrate that hog farming is practicable in this territory, and three years' experience has led us to the conclusion that the production of alfalfa hay in this region can also be made highly profitable.... The system of farming established on the diversification farm at Uniontown, Alabama, was planned with the special view of increasing the fertility of the soil and reducing the cost of tillage by doing away with hillside ditches and adopting improved methods of cultivation." -- p. 5

Letter from the United States Civil Service Commission to Claude D. White regarding Mr. White's scores for the examination he recently took. It is signed by Charles Hendricks, Secretary of the Ninth Civil Service District. He has scores for spelling, arithmetic, letter-writing, penmanship, and copying from plain copy. A large piece of the paper has been torn away. There is an envelope addressed to Claude D. White at 3227 Pratt St. in Omaha, Nebraska. The return address is for the United States Civil Service Commission, Ninth U.S. Civil Service District, Old Custom House, St. Louis, Missouri. It is postmarked St. Louis, December 16, 1908, and there are handwritten notes in pencil on the back.

Letter from S. V. Proudgt, Assistant Commissioner, to Bob Perryman, assignee of John W. Short stating that the claim that Bob Perryman had made to land 140 miles southwest of Boonville, Missouri was rejected because there was no proof that the John W. Short he purchased the land from was the same person who had been awarded the land on August 7, 1866 for military service.

Day dress of black silk taffeta. The dress, in the style of the Aesthetic or Reform Movement, is full-length, with a slender silhouette. The front and back of the bodice is styled of tiny vertical knife-pleats, which gather into the rounded neckline. The side panels of the bodice are plain, and there is a line of 14 snaps along the left side forming the closure. The long sleeves are smooth, with slight pleating at the padded shoulders, and they taper to the pointed wrists. The sleeves have 5 hidden snaps and a line of 12 domed non-functioning black taffeta covered buttons on each sleeve. Bodice and skirt are divided by a thin black band. Skirt is fully pleated with tiny vertical knife-pleats. Bodice is lined with thin black crepe. Label sewn inside at back below neckline: "Harbison / Vandervoort's St Louis" Not shown is the accompanying cummerbund of black taffeta, the waistband of large horizontal pleats with a large fan/bow at back with wide, trailing ribbons. They offer to send a free map of the exposition to anyone interested. Handwritten on the front of the card, "Hello your self. I have been to fair & returned had fun plenty. You owe me letter. Your friend, S.G.F. Was at fair ten days. Why did you not write you before you went." It is addressed to Miss Rosa Bassano, Paris, Tex., South Mill St. It is postmarked Cincinnati, Ohio on Oct 27, 1904.
