Arrival of Natural Gas in Marshall from Caddo Field May 24, 1909

Color tinted halftone postcard of the arrival of natural gas in Marshall, Texas, from Caddo Field. It is a dramatic nighttime view of a crowd standing in front of the Harrison County courthouse looking at a large flame atop a high gas standpipe anchored by wires to the ground. The caption at the bottom of the image describes the event: "Arrival of natural gas in Marshall from Caddo Field, May 24, 1909. Length of pipe line 25 miles, pressure 185 pounds. Marshall Gas Co., Marshall, Texas. Parker-Corti Photo." The postmark on the back is dated 1909, and the writer claims to have been among the crowd in the image. It is addressed to Mrs. John T.
