Patent for "sliding doors for freight cars, stock cars, &c., in which the car door is suspended at its upper end by means of suitable hangers engaging a track or guide rail extended above and to one side of the door-way in such manner that the door, when unfastened, may be made to slide sidewise to give access to the interior of the car." This book gives an overview of the twelve Blackland Counties of Texas in alphabetical order. For each county, a brief description of the geographic and agricultural characteristics is given as well as statistics on population and county income. Additionally, a geological description of the Black Prairie Region gives more specific aspects of the area and the soil compositions and a final chapter discusses the property market of the area.

Patent for a new and improved windlass. This design consists in "[t]he combination of a frame having the cross-bars near its lower and upper ends, the windlass-shaft journaled in the side pieces of the frame and having the balance-wheels and the pinion, the operating-gears mounted in one side of the frame and one of said gears meshing with said pinion, an upright mounted upon the lower front cross-piece of the frame and having a guide-pulley at its upper end, arms extending laterally from said upright, and a guide-roller journaled in said arms" (lines 11-21).

Patent for a new and improved steam cooker. This design consists, "with a water-holder and a funnel-shaped reservoir provided with dependent lugs superimposed thereon, of an open-ended foraminous cylinder fitting within said water-holder, a circular foraminous disk fitting within said cylinder, said disk having a raised rim or flange adapted when the disk is lifted to engage the lugs on the reservoir, and a cover for said water-holder, with means for securing said cover within the reservoir" (lines 31-41).

Patent for a tongue support that lessens the weight and wearing of the tongue on the horse's neck. The spring is made of steel, is two or more coils, and sits on the tongue rod. The spring's firmness is adjustable, and only enough weight to hold the tongue in place is put on the animal.

Grain-Conveyer for Binders, &c. (open access)

Grain-Conveyer for Binders, &c.

Patent for improvements in grain conveyers by using a slotted platform with parallel walls on the sides, a conveyer-block having arms and friction-rollers that is moved by an endless chain in between the walls, a lever keyed on a shaft and two gears in constant mesh with each other; all these parts working together to creating a mechanism that drives the conveyers in either direction to accomplish the binding of the grains. Illustration is included.
