Document for [Ferdinand] Louis Huth making him Director of the expedition of the colonists aboard the Jean Key. Castro tells him whom to trust, that he should do business in cash or barter only and that if needs an aide, he should ask Mr. Bourgeois. Castro tells him that he should invest in moss and cattle. He also includes, on page 3, a dispatch to Anson Jones, Secretary of State. Signed by Hi. Castro on October 27, 1843 in Antwerp.

Letter from H[enri] Castro to [Ferdinand] L[oui]s Huth informing him that he is no longer an employee and requesting the accounts and papers concerning the Society. Signed Hi. Castro on October 14, 1846 in Castroville.

Letter from H[enri] Castro to [Ferdinand] Louis Huth assuring him that he is writing twice a month and stating that Huth's letters are not reaching him. He also dictates his wishes for the construction of his house and gardens and states that he expects to bring with him a large number of families with money when he returns. He ends with several subjects he wishes Huth to address in his return letter. Signed Hy. Castro on October 15, 1845 in Antwerp.

Letter from [Ferdinand Louis Huth] to J. H. Illies & Co. informing him that Castro has arrived and taken over the colonization business. He also discusses provisions and finances. Also included second letter to same recipient dated 1846/10/16 asking them to use the most recent prices for his bill since some items have decreased. Page 237 of letter book.

Letter from [Ferdinand Louis Huth] to [Henri] Castro explaining the need for more oxen and another wagon. He quotes a letter from Elliot regarding cash and discusses the families moving out of the barn into houses. Also contains letter to Dr. Cupples regarding the need for him to pay back the cash advanced to him. Pages 206 (verso), 207, and 208 (recto) of letter book.

Letter from [Ferdinand Louis Huth] to [Henri] Castro. He first discusses the states of finances relating to Elliot and Callaghan and laments that he has not enough cash to purchase the necessary supplies but he states that he purchased two cows and a wagon. He also says that Mr. Solms and his wife have arrived and will be getting their fathers to come also. Also, letter to W. Elliot regarding two dollars' worth of bacon. Also, document regarding their lack of flour and asking someone to bring some next week. Pages 208 (verso), 209, and 210 (recto) of letter book.

Receipt for 15 bushels meal and 686 lbs. bacon from Higgenbotham. Receipt for 12 bushels meal Elliot furnished Higgenbotham. Note to ask Elliot for one sack salt at first opportunity. Letter from [Ludwig] Huth to [Ferdinand] Louis and Albert [Huth] questioning why he has not received responses yet. Included is a copy of a letter from the widow of Anton Gsell certifying that she is, in fact, his widow. He also mentioned a new law that would restrict who could deal with the immigration business. Signed by Huth on October 11, 1847 in Neufreystaedt.

Letter from [Ludwig] Huth to Ferdinand Louis Huth stating that they have made the acquaintance of Nick Haby and found him to be a good, honest young man. He says that Haby is leaving for Texas and Albert [Huth] wanted to leave as well, but will have to wait for the next boat. Signed by Huth on October 12, 1846 in Neufreystaedt.

Letter from Illies & Co. to [Ferdinand Louis] Huth sympathizing with Huth's hard times, giving his negative opinion of Castro, discussing the great sums of money Castro owes him and asking if Huth can prevent the colonists from cutting down pecan trees that need centuries to grow. Signed Illies & Co. on October 13, 1849 in New Orleans.

Document notice stating that Huth no longer works for Castro or the Texas Colonisation Company of Antwerp and that interested parties should contact Castro directly.
