Deep learning for peptide identification from metaproteomics datasets

This article explores a proposed deep-learning-based algorithm called DeepFilter for improving peptide identifications from a collection of tandem mass spectra. The authors find that DeepFilter is believed to generalize properly to new, previously unseen peptide-spectrum-matches and can be readily applied in peptide identification from metaproteomics data.

This work assesses the validity and applicability of the annotated synthetic corpus using machine learning techniques. Acoustic Metasurface-Aided Broadband Noise Reduction in Automobile Induced by Tire-Pavement Interaction

Article demonstrating a technique utilizing acoustic metasurfaces (AMSes) with high reflective characteristics using relatively lightweight materials for noise reduction without any change in mechanical strength or weight of the tire. The proposed design can significantly reduce the noise arising from tire–pavement interaction over a broadband of acoustic frequencies under 1000 Hz and over a wide range of vehicle speeds using a negative effective dynamic mass density approach.

COVID-19 and the gender gap in work hours

Article using panel data from the US Current Population Survey to examine changes in mothers’ and fathers’ work hours from February through April 2020, the period of time prior to the widespread COVID-19 outbreak in the United States and through its first peak. Using person-level fixed effects models, we find that mothers with young children have reduced their work hours four to five times more than fathers.

This article uses PCL to blend into PBHV. Both unfoamed and foamed blends are examined. The results provide a pathway to multifunctional performance in foams of high performance biopolymers such as PBHV through harnessing the CO₂ miscibility of PCL.

Does Perceived Competence Mediate between Ball Skills and Children’s Physical Activity and Enjoyment?

This article examines the potential mediating role of perceived motor skill competence on relationships between actual ball skills and children’s physical activity (PA) and PA enjoyment. Correlation analyses showed positive relationships among the study variables. The findings highlight that ball skills significantly impact students’ perceived competence, positively and indirectly affecting their PA and PA enjoyment.

This article focuses on practical computing systems with heterogeneous computing resources, and designs a novel CDC approach, called batch-processing based coded computing (BPCC), which exploits the fact that every computing node can obtain some coded results before it completes the whole task. The scheme demonstrates promising performance in terms of high computational efficiency and robustness to uncertain disturbances.

This article creates a new fiber model to simulate the agglomeration process, to analyze yarn properties of the lateral compact spinning with pneumatic groove, and to compare with other spinning yarns through a series of tests. The experiments demonstrated that the lateral compact spinning with pneumatic groove can improve the yarn properties: increase the yarn twist, enhance the yarn strength, and reduce the yarn hairiness.
