Anti-racist Praxis at Futurist Art and Design Pedagogy

Video recording featuring esteemed guest panelists, Tameka Ellington, Ph.D., Cheryl D. Holmes Miller, and Terresa Moses, M.F.A., this second installment of the 2044 series highlights the ways that working against anti-Blackness through the lens of Afrofuturism and Critical Race Theory allows for the examination and enactment of decolonizing design bias and white default. This session brings questions of Black agency, stereotyping, bias, representation, appropriation, commodification, and the dangers of pathologizing Blackness in design. Panelists discuss anti-racist practice in design education through forms of resistance and resilience.

Tomographic mapping of the nanoscale water-filled pore structure in corroded borosilicate glass (open access)

Tomographic mapping of the nanoscale water-filled pore structure in corroded borosilicate glass

This article applies cryo-based atom probe tomography to directly reveal the water-solid interface and hydrated corrosion layers making up the nanoscale porous structure of a corroded borosilicate glass in its native aqueous environment. The analysis includes morphology and compositional mapping of the inner gel/glass interface, isolation of a tomographic sub-volume of the tortuous water-filled gel, and comparison of the gel structure with simulations.

FERONIA and wall-associated kinases coordinate defense induced by lignin modification in plant cell walls (open access)

FERONIA and wall-associated kinases coordinate defense induced by lignin modification in plant cell walls

Article discusses authors' findings that through genetic screening for suppressors of defense gene induction in the low lignin ccr1-3 mutant of Arabidopsis thaliana, we found that loss of function of the receptor-like kinase FERONIA, although not restoring growth, affected cell wall remodeling and blocked release of elicitor-active pectic polysaccharides as a result of the ccr1-3 mutation. They determine that engineering plant cell walls will require development of ways to bypass endogenous pectin signaling pathways.

A content analysis of research on technology use for teaching mathematics to students with disabilities: word networks and topic modeling

Authors of article conduct a content analysis of research on technology use for teaching mathematics to students with disabilities. They applied word networks and structural topic modeling of 488 studies published from 1980 to 2021. Results showed that the words “computer” and “computer-assisted instruction” had the highest degree of centrality in the 1980s and 1990s, and “learning disability” was another central word in the 2000s and 2010s.

Preferential Solvation Study of Rosuvastatin in the {PEG400 (1) + Water (2)} Cosolvent Mixture and GastroPlus Software-Based In Vivo Predictions

Article claims that rosuvastatin (RST) is a poorly water-soluble drug responsible for limited in vivo dissolution and subsequently low oral systemic absorption (poor bioavailability). The results of inverse Kirkwood–Buff integrals showed the PS of RST by PEG400 as observed in all studied ratios of the binary mixture.

Urinary Glycosaminoglycans Are Associated with Recurrent UTI and Urobiome Ecology in Postmenopausal Women (open access)

Urinary Glycosaminoglycans Are Associated with Recurrent UTI and Urobiome Ecology in Postmenopausal Women

Article asserts that glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) are linear, negatively charged polysaccharides composed of repeating disaccharide units of uronic acid and amino sugars. To investigate the relationship between GAGs and recurrent urinary tract infection (rUTI), the authors profiled urinary GAGs in a controlled cohort of postmenopausal women.

A Highly Contiguous and Annotated Genome Assembly of the Lesser Prairie-Chicken (Tympanuchus pallidicinctus)

Article asserts that the Lesser Prairie-Chicken (Tympanuchus pallidicinctus; LEPC) is an iconic North American prairie grouse, renowned for ornate and spectacular breeding season displays, a species that has been declining in population across much of its historical range, with corresponding precipitous declines in contemporary population abundance, largely due to climatic and anthropogenic factors. The authors describe an annotated reference genome that was generated from a LEPC sample collected from the southern DPS.

Seeing plants as never before (open access)

Seeing plants as never before

Authors of the article assert that imaging has long supported our ability to understand the inner life of plants, their development, and response to a dynamic environment. The purpose of this review was to provide the scientific community with an overview of current imaging methods, which rely variously on either nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), mass spectrometry (MS) or infrared (IR) spectroscopy, and to present some examples of their application in order to illustrate their utility.

Toward an intentional model aware of learner cognitive traits for pedagogical process guidance

Authors of the article suggest that the novelty of Intentional Model of Pedagogical Process Guidance (IMPPG) is the effectiveness use of Cognitive Trait Model to be aware of different traits of learner. This model has been experimented and assessed with tutors and students learning spreadsheet management in a first-year studying in applied license’s degree in Business English and applied license’s degree in Education.

Measurement of the Intramolecular Hydrogen-Shift Rate Coefficient for the CH3SCH2OO Radical Between 314 and 433 K

Article describes how the intramolecular hydrogen-shift rate coefficient of the CH3SCH2O2 (methylthiomethylperoxy, MSP) radical, a product formed in the oxidation of dimethyl sulfide (DMS), was measured using a pulsed laser photolysis flow tube reactor coupled to a high-resolution time-of-flight chemical ionization mass spectrometer that measured the formation of the DMS degradation end product HOOCH2SCHO. Measurements performed over the temperature range of 314–433 K yielded a hydrogen-shift rate coefficient of k1(T) = (2.39 ± 0.7) × 109 exp(−(7278 ± 99)/T) s–1 Arrhenius expression and a value extrapolated to 298 K of 0.06 s–1.
