Unraveling Δ1-Pyrroline-5-Carboxylate-Proline Cycle in Plants by Uncoupled Expression of Proline Oxidation Enzymes
Article showing that overexpression of MsProDH in tobacco and Arabidopsis or impairment of P5C oxidation in the Arabidopsis p5cdh mutant did not change the cellular Pro to P5C ratio under ambient and osmotic stress conditions, indicating that P5C excess was reduced to Pro in a mitochondrial-cytosolic cycle. Results show that normal oxidation of P5C to Glu by P5CDH is key to prevent P5C-Pro intensive cycling and avoid ROS production from electron run-off.

Mutations in Arabidopsis Fatty Acid Amide Hydrolase Reveal That Catalytic Activity Influences Growth but Not Sensitivity to Abscisic Acid or Pathogens
Article showing that the enhanced growth and NAE tolerance of the AtFAAH overexpressing seedlings depends on the catalytic activity of AtFAAH, hypersensitivity to ABA and hypersusceptibility to nonhost pathogens are independent of its enzymatic activity. Findings suggest that the AtFAAH influences plant growth and interacts with ABA signaling and plant defense through distinctly different mechanisms.

Interrogating vertically oriented carbon nanofibers with nanomanipulation for nanoelectromechanical switching applications
Article demonstrates electrostatic switching in vertically oriented carbon nanofibers synthesized on refractory metallic nitride substrates, where pull-in voltages Vpi ranged from 10 to 40 V. A finite element model was also developed to determine a theoretical Vpi and results were compared to experiment.

Geometrical dependence of the low-frequency noise in superconducting flux qubits
Article reporting on a study of a series of 85 devices of vary design using a general method for directly measuring the low-frequency flux noise (below 10 Hz) in compound Josephson-junction superconducting flux qubits. The results support the hypothesis that local impurities in the vicinity of the qubit wiring are a key source of low-frequency flux noise in superconducting devices.
