Geometry, groceries, and gardens: Learning mathematics and social justice through a nested, equity-directed instructional approach (open access)

Geometry, groceries, and gardens: Learning mathematics and social justice through a nested, equity-directed instructional approach

Authors of the article addressed the call for explorations of how BIPOC students’ “experiences in secondary mathematics classrooms might advance transformative, equity-focused, pedagogical models” by exploring how a nested, equity-directed approach created different kinds of opportunities for students to take up, shift, or resist what it means to teach, learn, and do mathematics. Specifically, authors looked at efforts to engage equity-directed dominant and critical approaches through a series of three mathematics projects aimed at investigating food insecurity as a social (in)justice issue using geometry.

Thymus Functionality Needs More Than a Few TECs

Article is a review exploring the contributions of the many stromal cell types participating in the formation, expansion, and contraction of the thymus under normal and pathophysiological processes. Such information will better inform approaches for restoring thymus functionality, including thymus organoid technologies, beneficial when an individuals’ own tissue is congenitally, clinically, or accidentally rendered non-functional.

Evidence of Endozoochory in Upland Geese Chloephaga picta and White-Bellied Seedsnipes Attagis malouinus in Sub-Antarctic Chile (open access)

Evidence of Endozoochory in Upland Geese Chloephaga picta and White-Bellied Seedsnipes Attagis malouinus in Sub-Antarctic Chile

This article evaluates the role of endozoochory in herbivorous and sympatric bird species in sub-Antarctic Chile. The authors hypothesize that fragments of bryophyte gametophytes retrieved from their feces are viable and capable of regenerating new plant tissue. This relationship may have important implications in the way bryophytes disperse and colonize habitats facing climate change.

Self-reporting molecularly imprinted polymer with the covalently immobilized ferrocene redox probe for selective electrochemical sensing of p-synephrine (open access)

Self-reporting molecularly imprinted polymer with the covalently immobilized ferrocene redox probe for selective electrochemical sensing of p-synephrine

Article simultaneously imprinting the p-synephrine 1 template and covalently immobilizing a a ferrocene redox probe in a (bis-bithiophene)-based polymer. The resulting molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) was deposited on the Pt electrode as a thin film to form a redox self-reporting MIP film-based chemosensor.

Not so bad: avoidance and aversive discounting modulate threat appraisal in anterior cingulate and medial prefrontal cortex

This article describes an investigation in which 30 healthy adults underwent functional neuroimaging while completing an avoidance task in which responses to an Avoidable CS+ threat prevented delivery of an aversive stimulus, but not to an Unavoidable CS+ threat.
