Data Normalization Procedures on Decomposed MARC 21 Records (open access)

Data Normalization Procedures on Decomposed MARC 21 Records

In this document, the authors present some aspects of data normalization of the decomposed records to improve the results of analysis. The data normalization processes use pattern-matching techniques to eliminate and/or generalize anomalous characters and terms. Since the unit of analysis in preparing the test dataset of 400,000 MARC 21 records is a "word," there was a need for data normalization to provide reliability in the subsequent analysis.

Association of Home Food Availability with Prediabetes and Diabetes among Adults in the United States

This article examined associations of home food availabilities with prediabetes and diabetes among 8929 adults (20–70 years) participating in 2007–2010 National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys. The results show prediabetes participants had lower availability of healthy foods and higher availability of unhealthy foods, suggesting the need to improve healthy food availability at home for this population.

Carry On: One Digitization Lab's Journey Through Temporary Displacement

Presentation on the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) upgrades at the University of North Texas Library which required the displacement of the Digital Projects Lab staff and students from their lab for an estimated six weeks. With little access to digitization equipment, the lab planned to continue running during that period. By presenting the preparation and planning for the move, the logistics of the transition, and the results from the experience, the authors hope to share their strategies for digitization lab mobility and continued, off-site productivity. It was presented at the Texas Conference on Digital Libraries held virtually on May 24-26, 2021.

Sibling Aggression, Feeding Rates, and Hatch Rank of Nestling Red-Shouldered Hawks (Buteo lineatus)

Article describes how, in many raptor species, hatching asynchrony results in a size hierarchy among nestlings, which may facilitate brood reduction by means of sibling aggression-induced mortality, especially in times of low food resources. The authors studied the influence of hatch rank, brood size, and brood age on aggression and feeding rates among Red-shouldered Hawk (Buteo lineatus) nestlings in suburban southwestern Ohio.
