Geomorphic analysis of Xiadian buried fault zone in Eastern Beijing plain based on SPOT image and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) data

This article presents geomorphic analysis of Xiadian buried fault in eastern Beijing plain (China), based on the analysis of a Satellite Pour l’Observation de la Terre (SPOT-5) image, a high-resolution digital elevation model (DEM) derived from an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) system, SRTM DEM and field investigation. Results can provide valuable insight into geomorphic analysis of buried and semi-buried active faults in plain areas with increasingly frequent human activities.

Interspecific Differences in Metabolic Rate and Metabolic Temperature Sensitivity Create Distinct Thermal Ecological Niches in Lizards (Plestiodon)

This article examines three congeneric lizards from the southeastern United States (Plestiodon fasciatus, P. inexpectatus, and P. laticeps) and hypothesizes that interspecific differences in metabolic temperature sensitivity locally segregates them across their total range.

Dual levitated coils for antihydrogen production (open access)

Dual levitated coils for antihydrogen production

Article on theoretical and experimental efforts to use dual levitated coils to confine relatively large, cold, dense non-drifting recombining antihydrogen plasmas. The theoretical effort includes the development of a classical trajectory Monte Carlo simulation of confinement. The experimental effort includes levitation of a NdFeB permanent ring magnet, which produces a magnetic field that is qualitatively similar to the field that would be produced by the two coaxial superconducting magnetic coils.

Bioresorbable stent to manage congenital heart defects in children (open access)

Bioresorbable stent to manage congenital heart defects in children

This article assembles large, pediatric-sized stents (Ø10 - Ø20 mm) from poly(L-lactide) fibers (DH-BDS) at two thicknesses, 250 µm and 300 µm. DH-BDS exhibiting hoop strength similar to metal stents and demonstrating minimal degradation and strength loss over the first year before completely disappearing within 3 to 4.5 years show promise as a pediatric interventional alternative to current strategies.

Evaluation of Uniformity of Bamboo Bundle Veneer and Bamboo Bundle Laminated Veneer Lumber (BLVL) (open access)

Evaluation of Uniformity of Bamboo Bundle Veneer and Bamboo Bundle Laminated Veneer Lumber (BLVL)

In this article the density uniformity and mechanical properties of bamboo bundle veneers were systematically evaluated by the combination of light transmittance and mechanical stiffness. It was found that the number of broomings, dippings, and high-temperature heat treatments had different effects on the bamboo bundle veneers. On this basis, the uniformity of the density and mechanical properties of the bamboo scrimber (BS) that underwent hybrid paving, and the bamboo bundle laminated veneer lumber (BLVL), were analyzed.
