Excrescent vowels in Lamkang prefix sequences (open access)

Excrescent vowels in Lamkang prefix sequences

Article examines the nature of the super-short vowel-like segments between the C- prefixes of the Lamkang language by combining acoustic analysis with speakers' intuitions about syllable structure. The authors argue that an accurate phonetic description of Lamkang vowels must include these super-short vowels, as well as long and short vowels, which are phonemically distinct.

Diffusion Entropy vs. Multiscale and Rényi Entropy to Detect Progression of Autonomic Neuropathy (open access)

Diffusion Entropy vs. Multiscale and Rényi Entropy to Detect Progression of Autonomic Neuropathy

This article reviews the literature to argue the importance of the occurrence of crucial events in the dynamics of physiological processes. Crucial events are interpreted as short time intervals of turbulence, and the time distance between two consecutive crucial events is a waiting time distribution density with an inverse power law (IPL) index µ, with µ < 3 generating non-stationary behavior.

Occupational gender segregation and economic growth in United States local labor markets, 1980 through 2010

This article explores the barrier that gender segregation posses to the exchange of diverse ideas between women and men workers in the United States. The author uses fixed effects regression models to examine the relationship between labor market levels of segregation and economic growth from 1980 and 2010. Results from this study suggest that gender equity is a vital ingredient in the economic development of local United States labor markets.

Ignition delay times of NH3/DME blends at high pressure and low DME fraction: RCM experiments and simulations (open access)

Ignition delay times of NH3/DME blends at high pressure and low DME fraction: RCM experiments and simulations

Authors of the article describe how autoignition delay times of ammonia/dimethyl ether (NH3/DME) mixtures were measured in a rapid compression machine with DME fractions of 0, 2 and 5 and 100% in the fuel. Analysis of the mechanism indicates that this 'early DME oxidation' generates reactive species that initiate the oxidation of ammonia, which in turn begins heat release that raises the temperature and accelerates the oxidation process towards ignition. This is the accepted manuscript version of the published article.
