Dublin Core Metadata Created by Kuwaiti Students: Exploration of Quality in Context

Conference paper reporting results of the examination of metadata records for Arabic-language eBooks to support ongoing metadata education in the Arabian Gulf region. The results are presented in-context, after introducing the metadata teaching practices at this undergraduate program, and the major Dublin Core skill-building assignment. This is a manuscript version of a published work. Citation information is available for the published version of the work.

Exploration of Accuracy, Completeness and Consistency in Metadata for Physical Objects in Museum Collections

Conference paper for an exploratory study that examined student-created metadata for physical non-text resources. The authors applied in-depth qualitative and quantitative content analysis to the Dublin Core (DCTERMS) metadata created by the graduate students in two sections of an introductory digital library metadata course. Finding of comparative analysis for the asynchronous course section and the section with synchronous class meetings are also presented. Implications are discussed, along with future directions for research. This is a manuscript version of a published work. Citation information is available for the published version of the

Feasibility of PROMIS using computerized adaptive testing during inpatient rehabilitation

Article describes how there has been an increased significance on patient-reported outcomes in clinical settings. The authors aimed to evaluate the feasibility of administering patient-reported outcome measures by computerized adaptive testing (CAT) using a tablet computer with rehabilitation inpatients, assess workload demands on staff, and estimate the extent to which rehabilitation inpatients have elevated T-scores on six Patient Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS) measures.

Functional Carbon Capsules Supporting Ruthenium Nanoclusters for Efficient Electrocatalytic 99TcO4-/ReO4 Removal from Acidic and Alkaline Nuclear Wastes (open access)

Functional Carbon Capsules Supporting Ruthenium Nanoclusters for Efficient Electrocatalytic 99TcO4-/ReO4 Removal from Acidic and Alkaline Nuclear Wastes

Article describes how the selective removal of the β-emitting pertechnetate ion (99TcO4−) from nuclear waste streams is technically challenging. In this article, a practical approach is proposed for the selective removal of 99TcO4− (or its surrogate ReO4−) under extreme conditions of high acidity, alkalinity, ionic strength, and radiation field.

Terahertz spectroscopy of MOFs reveals dynamic structure and contact free ultrafast photoconductivity

Article describes how metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are porous crystalline materials, and their large pores make them particularly interesting for membranes, gas separation, and gas storage. The authors discuss how gas-MOF interactions alter the MOFs' spectral fingerprints.

Predicting incident cardiovascular disease among African-American adults: A deep learning approach to evaluate social determinants of health in the Jackson heart study

Article describes how the authors' study sought to leverage machine learning approaches to determine whether social determinants of health improve prediction of incident cardiovascular disease (CVD). Participants in the Jackson Heart study with no history of CVD at baseline were followed over a 10-year period to determine first CVD events.

Acetaldehyde oxidation at elevated pressure (open access)

Acetaldehyde oxidation at elevated pressure

A detailed chemical kinetic model for oxidation of CH3CHO at intermediate to high temperature and elevated pressure has been developed and evaluated by comparing predictions to novel high-pressure flow reactor experiments as well as shock tube ignition delay measurements and jet-stirred reactor data from literature. The flow reactor experiments were conducted with a slightly lean CH3CHO/O2 mixture highly diluted in N2 at 600–900 K and pressures of 25 and 100 bar. This is the accepted manuscript version of the published article.

Experimental and kinetic modeling study of oxidation of acetonitrile (open access)

Experimental and kinetic modeling study of oxidation of acetonitrile

Article asserts that oxidation of acetonitrile has been studied in a flow reactor in the absence and presence of nitric oxide. A detailed chemical kinetic model for oxidation of acetonitrile was developed, based on a critical evaluation of data from literature. This is the accepted manuscript version of the published article.

Using CRISPR/Cas to enhance gene expression for crop trait improvement by editing miRNA targets (open access)

Using CRISPR/Cas to enhance gene expression for crop trait improvement by editing miRNA targets

Article states that gene editing tools such as CRISPR/Cas9 are often thought of as a means to prevent gene expression; however, a more subtle and yet powerful approach is the enhancement of gene expression by precise deletion of repressor sites within a gene of interest. Authors argue that gene editing of miRNA target sites is preferable over deletion of the miRNA genes themselves, given that it avoids the pitfalls of unspecific derepression of miRNA target(s) beyond the gene of interest.
