Evaluation of Information Representation and Knowledge Organization in Cultural Heritage Organizations in Arabian Gulf Countries: A Case Study of Alqabas Archive

Presentation exploring how information is organized in digital cultural heritage collection in Arabian Gulf countries. Study reveals high metadata quality overall but lack of consistency for many metadata fields, explained in part by the absence of metadata creation guidelines and professional training for metadata creators.

Prioritizing riparian corridors for ecosystem restoration in urbanizing watersheds

This article explores restoration, rather than protection, being the basis for developing a watershed level strategy for improving water quality in urbanizing watersheds. This study uses a geographical information system (GIS) approach that utilizes riparian characteristics extracted from 40-meter wide corridors centered on streams and rivers. The model was applied to 90 sub-watersheds in the watershed of an important drinking water reservoir in north central Texas, USA.

Strategies for Increasing Findabilitiy of Language Data

Poster discussing practical methods for ensuring the quality of descriptive metadata associated with linguistic datasets in language archive deposits. Digital language archives are valuable tools for facilitating language revitalization, providing data on lesser-known languages, and supporting reproducibility of research and development of linguistic theory, though their potential remains unrealized as the data available in language archives are rarely accessed by linguists or language communities. Reasons for this under-utilization are the issues with data standardization and metadata quality. Including basic grammatical and typological information would allow wider audiences to reach the material.

Re-evaluation of rate constants for the reaction N2H4 (+ M) ⇄ NH2 + NH2 (+ M) (open access)

Re-evaluation of rate constants for the reaction N2H4 (+ M) ⇄ NH2 + NH2 (+ M)

Article describes how rate constants for the dissociation/recombination reaction N2H4 (+ M) ⇄ NH2 + NH2 (+ M) are determined by a combination of quantum-chemical calculations and statistical unimolecular rate theory. Implications of the present re-evaluated rate constants for the modeling of high temperature ammonia oxidation kinetics are discussed, showing an only small influence of their precise values on the overall properties of the process.

Initial Response to COVID-19: A Mixed-Methods Analysis of Media and School Communications to Identify Pedagogical Implications for Remote Teaching

Article examining one month of social media, news media, school district websites’ continuity plans and educational affiliate organizations, to unveil K-12 stakeholders’ initial response to K-12 remote teaching following the declaration of the national emergency of the COVID-19 pandemic in the USA. Initial responses focused on community lockdown procedures, sustaining education, adapting to a remote lifestyle and political tension. The authors revisited included tweets one week later to measure their connectedness, which revealed that educational organizations, which have the largest number of followers, also have the greatest outreach and visibility. This is the accepted manuscript of the article which has been approved to post in an institutional repository.

Homologues and homology and their related terms in phylogenetic systematics

Article describes how, in the field of phylogenetic systematics, the terms homology and homologue and their relationship to cladistic terms such as character, character state, synapomorphy and symplesiomorphy, as well as their relationships to each other, have been and are still discussed frequently. A recent re-emergence of concepts of homology/homologue free of any reference to explanatory hypotheses prompted the authors to explore these concepts and their relationships to each other as well as to the concept of morpheme, as introduced recently.

Modulating Uranium Extraction Performance of Multivariate Covalent Organic Frameworks through Donor–Acceptor Linkers and Amidoxime Nanotraps

Article presents a COF (covalent organic framework)-based adsorption-photocatalysis strategy for selective removal of uranyl from seawater in the absence of sacrificial reagents. This work shows that multivariate COF adsorption-photocatalysts can be rationally engineered to work efficiently and stably without sacrificial electron donors, thus opening the pathway for the economic and efficient extraction of uranium from the earth’s oceans.

Are States Created Equal? Moving to a State With More Expensive Childcare Reduces Mothers' Odds of Employment

This article investigates whether moving to a state with more expensive childcare is associated with lower odds of maternal employment among mothers who had been employed prior to relocation. Results show that moving to states with fewer childcare barriers is associated with higher levels of maternal employment, partly mitigating the negative labor market effects of interstate migration.
