Effect of MS222 on Hemostasis in Zebrafish
Article studying the effect of MS222 on hemostasis in Zebrafish. The authors performed various assays and find that Hct values, the amount of blood collected, bleeding, and coagulation differ significantly between anesthetized and nonanesthetized fish. These results suggest that blood collected after MS222 anesthesia of zebrafish has altered hemostasis.

Does the left aorta provide proton-rich blood to the gut when crocodilians digest a meal?
Article measuring blood parameters in the left aortae and atria of crocodilians. The findings do not support the hypothesis that a R–L shunt serves to deliver CO2 for the gastrointestinal system after feeding in crocodilians.

Absorption and emission modulation in a MoS2–GaN (0001) heterostructure by interface phonon–exciton coupling
Article reporting the change in the transient absorption characteristics of monolayer MoS2 and the modified PL emission characteristics in a monolayer MoS2–GaN (0001) heterostructure due to the coupling of carriers with the phonon modes and the energy exchange at the interface. The results demonstrate the relevance of interface coupling between the semiconductors for the development of optical and electronic applications.

Pulmonary compliance and lung volume varies with ecomorphology in anuran amphibians: implications for ventilatory-assisted lymph flux
This article examining the correlation between pulmonary compliance, lung volume, and lymph flux rates in anurans. The findings of this article suggest that lymph mobilization capacity may explain some of the variation in pulmonary compliance and lung volume in anurans.

Upper lethal temperatures of Northern Bobwhite embryos and the thermal properties of their eggs
This article explores the upper lethal temperature for Bobwhite eggs. Results find that thermal tolerances of Northern Bobwhite embryos are high, indicating an adaptation to the naturally occurring temperature extremes in the Bobwhite's environment. However, the results also indicate that high temperatures could have plausibly contributed to the population decline observed in the Bobwhite's semi-arid range.

Evaluation of Metadata Change in Authority Data Over Time: An Effect of a Standard Evolution
This article presents some results of the content analysis study that explores the authority data change over time in response to change in standards. Authority data describes persons, institutions, places, events, and works, as well as relations between them. This study contributes to the understanding of metadata change and its relation to functionality of authority records and improved information access.

Artificially Structured Boundary for a high purity ion trap or ion source
This article proposes a plasma enclosed by an Artificially Structured Boundary (ASB) as an alternative to existing ion source assemblies. In accelerator applications, many ion sources can have a limited lifetime or frequent service intervals due to sputtering and eventual degradation of the ion source assembly. Ions are accelerated towards the exit canal of positive ion sources, whereas, due to the biasing scheme, electrons or negative ions are accelerated towards the back of the ion source assembly.

Phase space of positron trajectories exiting a charged particle source through a magnetic field point cusp
This article presents a configuration of magnetic fields using properties of cylindrically symmetric permanent magnets as a candidate to produce a high purity charged particle source or trap. Cylindrically symmetric hollow permanent magnets produce magnetic field point cusps on the axis of symmetry. A magnetic field point cusp reflects all particles that lie outside a narrow region of phase space, a region dependent on particle kinetic energies and on the magnetic field intensity.

Effect of Elevated Temperatures on Properties of Blended Cements with Clinoptilolite
Article investigates the effect of elevated temperature on properties of clinoptilolite blended cements. Clinoptilolite was used at 5 %, 10 %, 15 % and 20 % replacement by weight for Portland cement while sand and water quantities were kept constant in all mix designs. The mortars with 5 % or 10 % cliniptilolite substitution have compressive strength exceeding 42.5 MPa after being subjected to 400 °C and 500 °C.

Timescales of learning in the basal ganglia and the hippocampus
This article is a commentary on "A role for the medial temporal lobe in feedback-driven learning: evidence from amnesia" by Foerde, K., Race, E., Verfaellie, M.,and Shohamy, D. (2013). It covers the idea that environmental feedback plays an important role with respect to both basal ganglia and hippocampus based learning. Evidence that both the hippocampus and the striatum are involved in reinforcement learning is given. This article suggests that future research use a more precise measurement of the two structures’ sensitivities to delay. The general picture suggests that the basal ganglia and the hippocampus share overlapping sensitivity to reinforcement signals, although at a different timescale.

Effect of selection for commercially productive traits on the plasticity of cardiovascular regulation in chicken breeds during embryonic development
Article investigates basic cardiovascular physiology in the Red Junglefowl, the broiler, and the White Leghorn breeds at 90% of incubation. The authors aimed to identify breed-specific features of arterial blood pressure and heart rate as well as the physiological mechanisms regulating them. They concluded that selection for rapid growth shifts cardiovascular regulatory plasticity to emphasize mechanisms that modulate pressure, and that selection for egg-laying capacity emphasizes mechanisms that modulate heart rate.

Multimodal switching of a redox-active macrocycle
This article looks at molecules that can exist in multiple states with the possibility of toggling between those states based on different stimuli. They have potential for use in molecular switching or sensing applications. The coupling of two different oxidation states with two different charge-transfer states within one macrocyclic scaffold delivers up to five different optical outputs. This molecular switching manifold exploits intramolecular coupling of multiple redox active substituents within a single molecule.
