Expanding the Equilibrium Solubility and Dissolution Thermodynamics of Benzoic Acid in Aqueous Alcoholic Mixtures (open access)

Expanding the Equilibrium Solubility and Dissolution Thermodynamics of Benzoic Acid in Aqueous Alcoholic Mixtures

This article determines the equilibrium solubility of benzoic acid in water and ethanol, as well as in nine {ethanol (1) + water (2)} mixtures from T = (293.15 to 323.15) K. The thermodynamic results presented could be useful in optimizing different physical and chemical processes involving benzoic acid in mixed aqueous-ethanol media.

Genetic Differentiation of the South Florida Red-Shouldered Hawk (Buteo lineatus extimus) from the Nominate Subspecies (Buteo lineatus lineatus) (open access)

Genetic Differentiation of the South Florida Red-Shouldered Hawk (Buteo lineatus extimus) from the Nominate Subspecies (Buteo lineatus lineatus)

Article discusses how the south Florida subspecies of the Red-shouldered Hawk (Buteo lineatus extimus) is distinctly paler and smaller than other subspecies, reproduces at a lower rate, and can occupy very different habitats such as open marshes and grasslands with only scattered trees. The authors evaluated population differentiation between the south Florida population of Red-shouldered Hawks and two populations of eastern Red-shouldered Hawks (B. l. lineatus) in suburban (Cincinnati) and rural (Hocking Hills) environments in southern Ohio.

Classroom observations of a cross-age peer tutoring mathematics program in elementary and middle schools (open access)

Classroom observations of a cross-age peer tutoring mathematics program in elementary and middle schools

Article describes how a growing body of research has shown the positive effects of peer tutoring on students’ academic achievement, self-concept, attitude, social, and behavioral outcomes. The authors' study examined classroom practices, as well as program teachers’ and students’ behaviors within a cross-age peer-tutoring program implemented in elementary and middle schools that serve predominantly Hispanic students.

High-Fidelity Conjugate Heat Transfer Simulation of Micro-Channel Heat Exchanger (open access)

High-Fidelity Conjugate Heat Transfer Simulation of Micro-Channel Heat Exchanger

Article describes how high-fidelity conjugate heat transfer simulations are used to model a micro-channel heat exchanger (MCHE) in a crossflow to study its thermal-hydraulic performance. Three different microchannel geometries, namely circular, triangular, and square with louver-shaped fins, are considered.

Uncoupling system and environment simulation cells for fast-scaling modeling of complex continuum embeddings (open access)

Uncoupling system and environment simulation cells for fast-scaling modeling of complex continuum embeddings

Article describes how continuum solvation models are becoming increasingly relevant in condensed matter simulations, allowing to characterize materials interfaces in the presence of wet electrified environments at a reduced computational cost with respect to all atomistic simulations. However, some challenges with the implementation of these models in plane-wave simulation packages still persists, and to address these challenges, the authors present the implementation of a double-cell formalism, in which the simulation cell used for the continuum environment is uncoupled from the one used for the electronic-structure simulation of the quantum-mechanical system.

Scaling Students' Self-Efficacy on Machine Translation Post-Editing: Psychometric Properties of the Scale and Their Associations (open access)

Scaling Students' Self-Efficacy on Machine Translation Post-Editing: Psychometric Properties of the Scale and Their Associations

Article describes how Machine Translation Post-Editing has emerged as a productivity-enhancing practice in the language service industry, where human editors correct the output of machine translation systems. this research paper aims to assess students' self-efficacy in translation learning, specifically in the context of MTPE, and explore the factor structure, psychometric properties, and internal associations of their self-efficacy.
