Absorption and emission modulation in a MoS2–GaN (0001) heterostructure by interface phonon–exciton coupling

Article reporting the change in the transient absorption characteristics of monolayer MoS2 and the modified PL emission characteristics in a monolayer MoS2–GaN (0001) heterostructure due to the coupling of carriers with the phonon modes and the energy exchange at the interface. The results demonstrate the relevance of interface coupling between the semiconductors for the development of optical and electronic applications.

Abstract for the AMS Southwest Chapter’s April 11, 2015 Spring Conference (open access)

Abstract for the AMS Southwest Chapter’s April 11, 2015 Spring Conference

This is an abstract for a presentation that was given at the American Musicological Society Southwest Chapter's Spring Conference on April 11th, 2015. The presentation was given alongside a poster display. This abstract highlights Serge Jaroff's Don Cossack Choir, which was founded at a Turkish concentration camp in 1921, and went on to perform around the world. This abstract gives details on the history of the choir and the type of concerts that Jaroff gave. In addition, it explains the lack of scholarly attention that Jaroff and his choir have received.

Accelerator-based fusion with a low temperature target (open access)

Accelerator-based fusion with a low temperature target

This article reports a study of a cold target with a high Fermi energy in light of recent research that points to a new phase of hydrogen, which is hypothesized to be related to metallic hydrogen. It has been shown that if the energy transfer between injected ions and target electrons is sufficiently small, net energy gain can be achieved. As such, the target is considered to be composed of nuclei and delocalized electrons.

Access to Film and Video Works: Surrogates for Moving Image Documents (open access)

Access to Film and Video Works: Surrogates for Moving Image Documents

This doctoral dissertation discusses access to film and video works. Physical and intellectual access to moving image documents is insufficient, often insignificant, at the level of the individual user. Existing access tools suffer from a lack of recognition of the differences between linguistic text communication and image communication. Browsing and relevance judgements are made difficult by the physical realities of film and video documents - one cannot flip through them - and by the habits of serial and passive viewing.

Accessibility and Mechanical Stability of Nanoporous Zinc Oxide and Aluminum Oxide Coatings Synthesized via Infiltration of Polymer Templates

Article describes how the conformal nanoporous inorganic coatings with accessible pores that are stable under applied thermal and mechanical stresses represent an important class of materials used in the design of sensors, optical coatings, and biomedical systems. Authors synthesize porous AlOx and ZnO coatings by the sequential infiltration synthesis (SIS) of two types of polymers that enable the design of porous conformal coatings.
