This paper describes multitasking facilities of Ada in concurrent and real-time programming. Synchronization and process communication mechanisms are discussed in detail, also, a new mechanism to solve the scheduling problem is developed. In the concurrent programming aspect, a comparison is made between Ada's rendezvous and Pascal's Monitor concept. In the real-time programming aspect, the differences between the Ada multitasking and the traditional "cyclic executive approaches are contrasted and their associated costs/benefits analyzed.

Among the early applications of computers, one can find frequent mention of intelligent instructional systems. Such intelligent instructional systems represent a new generation of learner-based computer aided instruction, preceded in time by the original frame-based systems and an intervening generation of expert-based CAI. The history of CAI is characterized by three generations: Frame-based CAI, Expert-based CAI and Learner-based CAI.

No matter how extended the use of the computer is, the printed document is still the primary medium for the presentation information, and will continue to be for some time. The use of computing facilities for preparation and production of the document is becoming as prevalent as their use for numeric computation. Commercially, document preparation systems are now a standard facility at research institution, and they have become quite common on each computer program. A conventional document preparation system usually contains two parts: a text editor used to create, enter, update, and maintain the text and control words that comprise the document in its "input" form, and a text formatter used to process that input and produce the final document.

In my problem I explored the nature and results of the juxtaposition of the sacred and mundane and its relationship to the specific formal elements of image and content in the paintings. I analyzed a small number of paintings (approximately four), selected from the new body of work. This analysis was conducted by answering each of the six stated questions as they pertained to the selected group of paintings as a whole.

This study involves an investigation of artist's intent (purpose) and the effects of altering the dimensional structure of a print utilizing the materials as imagery. Concerning the nature of the creative project, The following questions arose: 1. How will changing my current two-dimensional format to a three-dimensional presentation produce the desired intensity of physical, emotional, mental and spiritual depth? 2. What kinds of materials can be combined to effectively produce the desired imagery? 3. What technical problems arise in regard to a supporting armature in the three dimensional structures? 4. How is the artist's intent communicated through the imagery created in the three-dimensional structures?

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between media and content in my work. I began a series of paintings in the fall of 1985 which was based on 35mm transparencies. At this point, the slides were nothing more than a visual aid, a way to augment my technical skills; my chief interest in these paintings was narrative. I was also taking a drawing class at the time, and several times I recycled a transparency I had used with a painting to create a drawing. Sometimes Both versions were relatively successful (though often for very different reasons), other times one version would be more successful than the other. Technical proficiency (or lack of it) did not seem to be the determining factor in these cases.

The problem of this investigation was to determine if there was a relationship between scale, forma and technique in the making of welded steel sculpture, and to determine the best method(s) of working on three size categories and in two basic categories of form. The size categories were two to four feet, four to eight feet and over eight feet in any dimension with the other dimensions such that the sculpture enclosed a volume of space. The two categories of form were geometric or inorganic (forms based on geometry or mathematics) and organic (forms found in, or resembling those in nature). The effects of scale, form, and technique(s) in the production of these sculptures were observed and a determination was made concerning which technique presented the most advantageous approach to the creation of welded steel sculpture in each category.

My interest in pictorial representationalism began when I started painting and drawing as a child, and my concern for working realistically continued and developed through my undergraduate years in college. In this investigation i explored the working processes used in a representational approach to contemporary woven tapestries. A brief discussion of the origins of representational woven tapestries with concentration upon Twentieth Century textiles was followed by an analysis of the influences upon my work by artists and stylistic trends.

This paper analyzes Carl Nielsen's Concerto for Flute and Orchestra. Marilyn Seale Depp identifies the significance of the piece and explores its melodic development, also providing background on Carl Nielsen's philosophy and composition style.

This paper provides a historical overview of the creation of the Concerto in E-flat Major for alto saxophone and string orchestra, Op. 109, by Alexander Glazunov, performs a structural and melodic analysis of the piece, and makes suggestions for the application of the findings.

This project was designed to afford me the opportunity to work with the possibility of combining painting and music through the creation of narrative art. I endeavored to produce a body of work in which the individual paintings and songs would also stand on their own as autonomous works, and still function as components of a work that was larger in scope. The challenge was to develop the visual and verbal elements into a unified whole.

The intent of this problem was twofold: (1) to demonstrate the adaptability of woven tubular forms in an exhibition space and (2) to demonstrate how support structures could be successfully combined with woven fabric forms as part of the overall design. The problem was executed to alleviate some of the limitations imposed by exhibition spaces. Specifically, the more versatile the piece, the greater the potential for aesthetic and structural effect.

I constructed ceramic/mixed media instruments, recorded rhythmic music composed for and played on my instruments, and prepared a slide presentation portraying my daily rituals a studio artist. I describe in this paper the process involved in creating this environment and give an interpretation of the work by answering the following questions. 1. What were the rituals that were essential to the creation of my work? 2. In what ways did the use of the different visual and audio media work together to create a unified environment? 3. In what ways was the total experience of the different media a more direct and fulfilling expression of my goals as an artist, or are these goals better fulfilled when working in one media?

The unique nature of this process raised major technical questions that I intended to address during this project. The purpose was to obtain a quality surface, considering both visual and textural considerations, while using the copper matt finish.

Ikat is a technique used throughout the world for the surface enrichment of textiles. In Ikat, patterns are dyed into the warp, weft, or both by the use of various resists such as twine or plastic wrapped tightly around a group of yarns. The dyed yarns are then unwrapped and woven into fabric. Instead of stretching an entire warp or weft on a frame to apply resist, yarn can also be measured into small groups for tying and dyeing. These small groups of yarn can be dyed with simple patterns and later rearranged and combined to create more complex designs. In order to investigate the possibilities of the above mentioned methods, a series of Ikat fabrics was developed.

This paper examines the surface effects of the salt-bisque technique on clay forms and its evolution through the introduction of seven-sodium based chemicals. Genevieve Espinosa walks the reader through a series of tests and procedures in three stages: the formative, decorative, and conclusive (firing) stages.

The purpose of this project has been to consider the importance of the words in my work. The problem was to focus more clearly on the use of words and their relationship to the visual elements and content. It was hoped also that it would determine how the work is altered by these factors.

In this creative project, I investigated the combination of photographic images with more spontaneous visual elements in collaged drawing and monoprints in order to produce both visually strong and personally meaningful works.

From this investigation, I hoped to answer the following questions. 1) Was there a relationship between the apparent disorder evident at a boundary area and the wave form? 2. Was the wave configuration an archetypal motif? 3. If there was an archetypal wave form, did its presence transcend the use of a scientific medium?

This paper highlights the relationship between the vocal and piano music created by composer Robert Schumann. Christina Finch provides an analysis of songful and literary allusion in his piano music and pianistic and instrumental allusion in his songs to draw a prominent connection.

Thesis studies the music and content of the opera La Traviata, focuses on the evolution of its heroine, Violetta Valéry. Carolyn Sue Finley traces the history behind the story and its reflection in the music.

This research is the result of an effort to provide real-time machine recognition of hand-send Morse code through the use of the M6800 microcomputer. While the capability to recognize hand-send Morse code messages by machine has been demonstrated before on large scale special purpose computers, on minicomputers, and even on the M6800 microcomputer, the main contribution of this paper is to demonstrate it with relatively understandable hardware and software.

Questions that arise are: 1. How will the form and content of my current work be affected by a more implicit narrative form? 2. How will the work be affected by: a. source of imagery? b. scale of images and overall works? c. materials? d. intent? Will the intent of my current work change because of a more linear narrative format? 3. Assuming the narrative will change from one piece to another, what will be the effect of placement of images in each work and how will the placement of each work in relation to the others be affected?

The purpose of this study was to examine the standard line of functional pottery produced in my studio. It involved two areas, and the questions I presented to myself were the following: 1. How is each form developed? 2. What consideration is given to the specific function of that form? 3. How can the development of a standard line of production strengthen the personal style of my pots?
