Geological Study of Uranium Potential of the Kingston Peak Formation, Death Valley Region, California: Final Report (open access)

Geological Study of Uranium Potential of the Kingston Peak Formation, Death Valley Region, California: Final Report

From introduction: Our particular interest in the uranium potential of the Proterozoic quartz-pebble and quartzite-pebble conglomerates of the Kingston Peak Formation has been based upon: 1. Known uranium occurrences of low to intermediate grade in a peliticarkosic sulfide-bearing unit near the base of the formation; the "Favorable Submember" of this report. 2. Uranium occurrences and widespread anomalies in underlying Proterozoic granitic-metamorphic rocks, including the World Beater Complex, within and bordering the basin in which the conglomerates were deposited. 3. Reported minor shows of uranium associated with extensive anomalous radioactivity in the conglomerates themselves.

Geology and Uranium Evaluation of the Precambrian Quartz-Pebble Conglomerates of the Needle Mountains, Southwest Colorado: Final Report (open access)

Geology and Uranium Evaluation of the Precambrian Quartz-Pebble Conglomerates of the Needle Mountains, Southwest Colorado: Final Report

From purpose of study: The Vallecito Conglomerate of the Needle Mountains area in southwestern Colorado was studied to evaluate the uranium potential of the unit and to test the applicability of the uraniferous Precambrian pebble-conglomerate exploration model in this area. The main thrust of this project is the Vallecito Conglomerate, but the Uncompahgre Formation, which is also in the Needle Mountains area has basal conglomerate that was investigated in a reconnaissance mode. Five specific objectives have been formulated to meet the overall purpose of this project, and these include: a) Determine the uranium distribution in the Vallecito Conglomerate and the basal conglomerate of the Uncompahgre Formation. b) Evaluate the uranium resources of the area to the degree possible utilizing available information and personal field investigations. c) Test the validity of application of the Precambrian quartz-pebble conglomerate model to this area. d) Recommend detailed studies and delineate drilling sites in the area to further evaluate the uranium resources if warranted. e) Recommend additional geologic, geophysical and geochemical studies which would bear directly on evaluation of uranium resources of the Precambrian pebble conglomerates in the Needle Mountains area.

Geologic Study of Kettle Dome, Northeast Washington: Final Report

From abstract: This geologic study of Kettle dome, northeast Washington, encompasses an area of approximately 800 square miles (2048 sq km). The evaluation of uranium occurrences associated with the igneous and metamorphic rocks of the dome and the determination of the relationship between uranium mineralization and stratigraphic, structural, and metamorphic features of the dome are the principal objectives. Evaluation of the validity of a gneiss dome model is a specific objective. The principal sources of data are detailed geologic mapping, surface radiometric surveys, and chemical analyses of rock samples.

Multivariate Statistical Analysis of Stream Sediments for Mineral Resources from the Craig NTMS Quadrangle, Colorado (open access)

Multivariate Statistical Analysis of Stream Sediments for Mineral Resources from the Craig NTMS Quadrangle, Colorado

Abstract: Multivariate statistical analyses were carried out on Hydrogeochemical and Stream Sediment Reconnaissance data from the Craig quadrangle, Colorado, to support the National Uranium Resource Evaluation and to evaluate strategic or other important commercial mineral resources. A few areas for favorable uranium mineralization are suggested for parts of the Wyoming Basin, Park Range, and Gore Range. Six potential source rocks for uranium are postulated based on factor score mapping. Vanadium in stream sediments is suggested as a pathfinder for carnotite-type mineralization. A probable northwest trend of lead-zinc-copper mineralization associated with Tertiary intrusions is suggested. A few locations are mapped where copper is associated with cobalt. Concentrations of placer sands containing rare earth elements, probably of commercial value, are indicated for parts of the Sand Wash Basin.

Uranium in Granites From the Southwestern United States: Actinide Parent-Daughter Systems, Sites and Mobilization: First Year Report

From summary: In this first annual report for subcontract BFEC 79-384-E (Uranium in Granites of Southwestern North America) we have established the general geological and geochemical background for our investigations. We describe the regional setting and some important geochemical patterns, constituting a major uranium anomaly, of the Precambrian basement in the Colorado Plateau region. Three of our investigated samples were derived from a portion of this region in central and northern Arizona. We describe the tectonic and petrologic setting for a fourth sample, a granite from the young (Cretaceous) Peninsular Ranges Batholith of southern California.

Geology and Uranium Favorability of the Sonora Pass Region, Alpine and Tuolumne Counties, California

From project objectives: The Sonora Pass region was identified by the U. S. Department of Energy (DOE) as a potential uranium resource area because of past uranium production at the Juniper Mine and reported high-grade occurrences in other buried fluvial channels which are Tertiary in age. The objective of the Sonora Pass drilling project was to obtain subsurface data that would increase the accuracy of uranium reserve estimates for the project area.

Geologic Evaluation of Uranium in Plutonic Rocks, Northwestern Arizona: Status Report

From introduction: This report is a status report to complete present contract obligations and is submitted in lieu of a Final Report. A Final Report is not feasible especially until complete analyses and statistical treatment of all of the 436 rock chip, 2 soil-rock and 90 water samples, a total of 528 samples submitted by the partners to Union Carbide, Oak Ridge, Tennessee, plus remaining analyses to be run by BFEC's Grand Junction Laboratory become available and other recommendations and necessities are done. See subsequent section of this report titled: "Recommendations For Work Needed to Complete Final Report". A Final Report may be prepared by the partners if supplemental funds for such work and for completion of the analyses and their statistical treatment ever become available.
