[Dataset Paper Mould Version 2]

3D dataset model of a hand papermaking mould consisting of three parts: a mould frame, a mould surface, and a deckle. In this version (v2), the mould frame and the mould surface are printed separately and can be fastened together with common sheet metal screws. The user will need to print all three files to have a complete papermaking mould. The resulting 3D printed model will replicate the historical artifact used in Great Britain and parts of Europe in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries with slight variations. This papermaking mould is functional and can be used to cast a 4 ¼ x 5 ½” sheet of paper. While the size of sheet this mould produces is small, the mould frame, its ribs, and the deckle are full size as found in larger traditional European papermaking moulds.

This version (v3) is the same as version 2 in that the mould frame and the mould surface are printed separately, but the holes in V3's mould frame are larger in diameter to accept a heat set threaded insert and machine screws are used in place of sheet metal screws. The user will need to print all three files to have a complete papermaking mould. The resulting 3D printed model will replicate the historical artifact used in Great Britain and parts of Europe in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries with sight variations. This papermaking mould is functional and can be used to cast a 4 ¼ x 5 ½” sheet of paper. 3D dataset model of a xylographic woodblock containing pages 31-32 of "An Illustrated Explanation of Miraculous Response Appended to the Heart Sutra and Diamond Sutra," an ancient Buddhist text published by Zhu Xuzeng 朱續曾 in 1798. The woodblock is one of 37 held by the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) Library Special Collections. Wingate Miniature Printing Press

This 3D dataset model contains the individual datasets necessary to print and assemble a miniature working printing press. The resulting press has a working area of about 2.35" X 1.7", stands 6.5" tall by 3.85" wide, and is 6" long. With minor liberties, this model is a miniature working version of a European style common press similar to those used during the hand-press era, in which a screw transmits pressure through the platen to create an even imprint onto an inked surface. Assembly is facilitated by downloading the related pdf file illustrating the individual press parts. Additional assistance is available at 3Dhotbed.info.

3D dataset model of a facsimile of a 16th century woodcut illustrating a typecaster at work. The model is 4 inches by 4 inches square, and should print type high: 0.918 inches. To print on a standard FDM printer, a smaller mm. nozzle is necessary. A resin print of this dataset was set in a locked form of a tabletop roller press, inked, and printed successfully.

This wood block, along with Mattioli Copy 1, is part of set originally commissioned for a mid-16th century publication of an ancient treatise on medicinal plants by Dioscorides, entitled De Materia Medica. The text was translated into Czech and German (and later Latin and Italian) by a Viennese doctor and naturalist, Pietro Andreas Mattioli, with the support of the Hapsburg Emperor Ferdinand I. Mattioli hired Giorgio Liberale de Udine and Wolfgang Meyerpeck to design and illustrate these blocks, of which there were originally over 600. This woodblock is held by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign's Rare Book and Manuscript Library under the call number 581.634 M434 c2.
