[Copy of letter from Sam Houston to Joseph Ellis, June 12, 1847]
Copy of a letter from Sam Houston to his friend Joseph L. Ellis of Grand Cane at his plantation "Pleasant Lawn." Discusses Judge Worsham, the health of the Houston family, and neighbors. This letter is purported to be a hoax and forgery, as multiple copies exist. It was found folded inside a book that was published in the late 1800s and given to the library over sixty years ago.

Postcard of a four post wooden bed next to a fireplace with a full mantle and gun mounted on the wall, a rocking crib and rocking chair with an animal skin at the center of the wooden room. The bottom edge of the postcard reads "Bedroom of General Sam Houston." The back of the postcard adds, "Sam Houston Home and Grounds General Sam Houston, Commander-in-Chief of the Texas Army in 1836, President of the Republic of Texas, Governor of the states of Tennessee and Texas, United States Senator. General Houston lived in Huntsville, Texas, during his last years. His grave is in the city cemetery."

Postcard of a photograph of a church with arched doorways and a steeple, described as "Methodist Church, Huntsville, Texas. Erected 1888." The letter on the back of the postcard reads, "Certainly enjoyed my visit to Beaumont, and oh how I did hate to leave. Reached home from there Monday. Best wishes to all my friends, Love Sarah." The postcard is addressed to "Miss Mamie McFaddin Beaumont, Texas."
