Oral History Interview with Dr. Dan Wallace Bacon, March 3, 1998

Interview with Dr. Dan Wallace Bacon, a physician from Kerrville, Texas, who also served as the city and Kerr County health officer. Dr. Bacon discusses his family history, as well as his education, medical career, brief stint in the Air Force, and general town life in Kerrville. While working at Peterson Hospital in Kerrville, he treated trauma victims from car accidents on Highway 27. In the Air Force, he briefly practiced psychiatry, served as a prison doctor, and finally switched to obstetrics and gynecology. He relates stories from his time as an obstetrician, as well as a general practitioner and family physician. He also discusses the history of minority communities in Kerrville, especially during integration, and the founding of the Kerrville Veteran's Hospital. Dr. Bacon's further remembrances, as well as a historical profile of the Kerrville VA Hospital, are included at the end of the interview transcript.

Interview with Vern "Bucky" Blodgett, an armed forces veteran and Veteran's Administration worker from Kerrville, Texas. Mr. Blodgett describes moving to and growing up in Kerrville, and his work with the VA Hospital there (first as a clerk, and finally, as acting associate director). Besides serving in the service for four years, he also worked in several VA facilities around the country before making his way back to Kerrville. His memories of the town include details of the flood of 1932, his role in founding the Buck 'N' Bull Club (a rifle club) in 1946, and a few stories concerning the religious community. A historical profile of the Kerrville VA Hospital is included at the end of interview transcript.

Warranty deed from Virginia (Jennie) Wright de Ganahl to her son Charles Francis de Ganahl acknowledging the sale of "that tract or parcel of land...known as Survey No. 38" to Charles in exchange for "ten dollars and other considerations." The deed specifies that Charles has rights to the land, however, there is already an agreement to allow the railroad the right of way on parts of the land; also being given to Charles is all of Virginia's farm and truck equipment as well as her household and kitchen furniture.

Document outlining the payment schedule from W. H. and Allie Bonnell to the Federal Land Bank of Houston in the total amount of $2,500. According to the document the couple will pay in "sixty-eight equal semi-annual payments of" $81.25 to be paid on the first of April and October; the final payment will be for $81.02 on April 1, 1957. On the back is the table printed with dates and payments from 1923 to 1928 filled in in red ink.
